I love the trees
Im a big fan of the conceptual/NPR styles and I think these trees would be great for them.
Regarding your render I think that the grass is a little too big, might have to scale it down a bit.
Looks good though

Itβs a tough one for me to answer as in my professional career I have used SketchUp for many different things not to mention for many different service lines within our company. (We are a global consulting based company)
Primarily I use SketchUp for construction based work, but that will vary from road designs, bridge design, photomontage implementation of proposed work, conceptual based renders, arch visualisation, creation of models for military simulation (VBS2) and the list goes on. I am based in our Landscape Architecture department however I will do work for anyone within our company who needs me particular skills.
I typically use SketchUp as a stepping stone to bring into other programs, 3ds max, VBS2, Unity, Photoshop and so on.
And who can forget, I do use SketchUp for fun as well however my personal time to use SketchUp is almost next to nothing now
well i did send in an error report and i think i asked for a t-shirt but have not heard back from them yet.
im still holding onto hope that ill get some sort of reply
maybe i might try add some dishes to the tower when i get some time.
Pretty sweet photo though, looks like there were great conditions up there
Yes i have dabbled a little bit in the cryENGINE and i can tell you from just a quick play its quite powerful for realtime visualisation. Albeit it is still the gamer type realism not photorealistic (like Lumion).
I was experimenting with the engine just after i completed a project where i was bringing my sketchup models into the VBS2 engine (Virtual Battle Space 2) which is a militarty simulation, essentially a game engine though. With the use of the PlayUp Tools bringing your models into the CryENGINE is pretty straight forward IF you follow a few specific rules.
Havnt really had much time to play around with the engine lately though, just dont have the spare time....
cheers, wasnt really sure what i was going for. Just thought something like this might look good with a bit of a complex model. Was mainly just playing around with lighting though
Hey everyone,
I have been working on this model of a 330kv transmission pylon for work and thought id do a quick little render.
Modelled by myself from CAD files and rendered with Podium.
Just to let you all know i just signed up and downloaded the free programs today.
Hopefully i can get some time set aside to check them out

Podium doesn't run inside of SketchUp, and there's a 64 bit version available. So that's not the issue, I think.
Correct I am running 64 bit Podium v2.8 and it does not render within SketchUp.
The computer i have for rendering is specifically design for crunching numbers and rendering, only thing it needs is a better GPU (which im working on) in the hopes to be using Lumion, just need to get work to sign off on it.
I will get in contact with Podium to see what the problem could be, I might try rendering a basic model and see how large i can go though
Gaieus,
Installing Kerkythea 64bit was a little tricky as not all the files actually get installed but once it is and you render in it, it flys compared to the 32bit version!
nah just tried a quick search but couldnt really come up with anything specific, like i said im just curious and thought someone here might have done a massive render before.
In Kerkythea (the 64 bit boost version) i have actually rendered an image at about 50000x30000 pixels, cant remember if i tried any larger though.
Hello,
I have a model that im working on of a street, got a bit of detail within it but i was playing around with rendereing it in Podium V2 (just a few different styles)
I can render the image thats no problem however its the size that i want rendered.
I have a dedicated render computer and normally pump out renders at viewport size to check materials and so forth, this particular render i have been doing at 9580x5000 when i want some sort of a final. Normally do it over night and average time has been about 3hours for the render. I have been trying to see how large i can go and when i tried 15328x8000 it took 7 hours to render however the resolution was at viewport size (1916*1000)When i render at this size the image takes me about 20 mins.
So i know that the Podium website states that "there is unlimited resolution size for the rendered images" but is that true?
Im really just being curious here.
FYI my render computer specs are as follows:
HP Z800
-2x Xeon X5660 CPU's (2.8ghz)
-32gb ram
-Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
-NVIDIA Quadro 600
I would love a t-shirt! thats a great idea
I still do have the model however I doubt my company would let me release it...
All I had done was import a .dwg file to model from, I was cleaning it up and was changing the segments of the arc (7 to 24) and that's when I had the error.
After I couldn't change it I restarted SketchUp and I was able to change the segment value.
I have not been able to recreate the error since, would love to to find out what was happening though.
Well the funny thing is that after I clicked OK the same window popped up so I clicked OK again and nothing happened, the window just disappeared...
could this be some hidden easter egg??
Its the weirdest thing ive ever seen and it almost feels comical or just for fun (like the Google images for Christmas, Easter and so forth...)
I just got this error when I was trying to change the segment value of an arc (changing from 7 to 24).
Anyone ever had this before??

The universe was conceived in SketchUp, but due to the high poly nature of the project there was a crash resulting in the "Big Bang."
This is a fact I learned from 2,000 year old scrolls buried in my back yard.
What is this religion called again? I'd like to sign up...
Thank you very much ArthuR I cant wait for it to be released!

I can run Lumion without any issues - the only time I ran out of memory was when I tried to import a 40 Mb file. Then broke it down into two and could import flawlessly.
I was able to import 5 very large and complex model into the one Lumion file.
They were a mix of SU and Revit models and file sizes of each varied:
1 - 213mb
2 - 202mb
3 - 200mb
4 - 180mb
5 - 61mb
Mind you I was unable to run at full resolution and was getting on average 7FPS so very challenging to navigate around.
Never crashed though...
I am very interested to see if Lumion 2 comes with a free version to try out.
For what its worth I have the free version of Lumion which I tried out on my work computer. Like you we are maybe contemplating getting a licence.
I'm running Windows XP 64-bit, 8GB RAM and just a pretty standard Quadro FX2000. This is by no means an optimal card for Lumion (and it shows) however I did not encounter any problems with installing and/or running the program on Windows XP.
It was even able to handle a very detailed Revit model that 3D Studio Max count even handle.
As solo suggests, get a Geforce GTX580 and if you can I would try to get an exception to use Windows 7 as its just plain better to use then Windows XP
Hope that helps...
Well there you go. If I had of seen that thread earlier then I wouldnt have been so surprised about 14.7 million edges. (I am trying to double that atm though )
I'm going to try out the Susan challenge and see what I get as well.
I'm still quite surprised though as the card that is running in that machine that I used for this file is actually pretty crap.
Hello all,
Just thought id share this with you all.
I have a SU model that contains 14.7 million edges and 7.3 million faces. It is made up of one component which is an xfrog LS02_Buxux_semeprvirens_Boxwood .3ds file.
Thought I would share this with you all as to me this is the most I have seen SU handle. I can still navigate around the model, initially its slow but it is still usable.
Took a bit to copy and paste the components and SU didnt crash once. The total file size for the SU file is about 154mb.
Has anyone ever seen SU handle this many entities?
