      mitcorb - It looks like its already scaled up by 1000, so that shouldn't be a problem, but that scaling tip is helpful.

      Belaar - I think you may have the order in which you're doing the bending mixed up. Also the orientation before bending is critical, and perhaps confusing. Please see the attached SU file for a better explanation - use the scene tabs to view each part.

      You can do that with the Shape Bender plugin. You'll need to scale up by 100 or 1000x, like Ogan suggested, then use Shape bender first on the short axis, then rotate the component and bend along the long axis. To make a complete circle, you'll need to make the long bend in 2 parts, because Shape bender doesn't work on a full circle...just split the model in half, then bend each part and put them back together.

      Its a lot of messing around, but definitely doable. Congrats!

      Window -> Soften/Smooth edges

      or

      Select geometry -> Right click -> Soften/Smooth edges

      Does that help?

    • RE: Shape bender

      If you place the bar you want to bend a couple inches directly over the straight line, then the bent component will be the same length as the arc.

      Does that help?

      Where your cursor is placed when you start orbiting is the center of orbit. If you keep the cursor on some geometry while orbiting, it won't disappear.

    • RE: Mens Sheds!

      Awesome concept, Mike.

      It reminds me of the growing trend of maker spaces. These are fully equipped shops that operate on a subscription basis. I just learned of one opening in the Twin Cities at our last local Sketchup Meetup. You can read about the maker space here: http://www.mnmill.org

      It seems the Men's Sheds takes it one step further, almost like a help forum as well as a shop. That's very appealing to me as someone who's not familiar with some methods like metalworking or electronics.

    • RE: Help export DXF STL

      If you're asking about this plugin: http://www.guitar-list.com/download-software/convert-sketchup-skp-files-dxf-or-stl when you save the file, you need to type ".stl" at the end of the name. So "my stl export" --> "my stl export.stl"

      ...as well as many components. They are listed as Sketchup 6, but will work just fine in SU 7 and 8.
