    • RE: So what's in 6.4.112?

Hi Tom, I think you have been clear. It certainly does sound bad, and it is very strange. We've made no change that would affect performance (any change that is optimized or affected by new hardware is a BIG change, and this M4 update is one of the smallest of the updates).

What I was hoping for, is to learn something new from any system house cleaning that you do. To see if there was something on your system that is causing the graphics card to cycle extra long, or cause any feedback latency and to see you fix that (and learn what the cause was) would be the best outcome here.

It really doesn't make any sense for you to have slow-downs, especially more slow-downs with M4, so we're perplexed.

Please keep us in the loop.

      Thanks,

    • RE: So what's in 6.4.112?

Tom, please post your results. I am very interested to learn if your performance is improved/restored and also what your housecleaning steps were!

We have had many folks note a speed improvement with SketchUp 6, but there have also been a few reports of slow downs that we've been working on. We had the old problem with two SketchUp.exe processes running after accessing Online Help via IE and various security settings (not releasing the SketchUp .exe), but have solved that problem in an earlier maintenance release.

We still see the occasional report of slow performance, and have a very difficult time tracking down all the variables, so your results may be very helpful! Please let us know.

Also, no worries to all here. We have pretty "thick skin" (...an American saying meaning that we are not overly sensitive to criticism). We only want to help and learn. So to us, some of the bad mouthing seems hurtful and unnecessary, but we realize that people handle difficulty in different ways, and not all of those ways are pleasant. We try to look beyond that and handle the problem. Heck, that's all Brad and I deal with! πŸ˜‰ Problems are our middle names! πŸ˜‰

On this journey, we're all sharing our experiences and trying to help each other. That's the spirit of online communities.

When I say that we are working "smarter" what I mean is that we are learning from our mistakes and planning for the future without repeating them. To tell you all the truth, any company transition is very, very difficult. It adds monumentally to the already difficult task of software creation. Our team is in a very solid position now, and we are focusing heavily on quality and not repeating mistakes that were made over the past year. This particular problem with M4 was totally out of the blue and new to us...and that happens. We've reacted and fixed the problem and have attempted to keep you all in the loop and to be as friendly and positive as possible. We know that it was a shock and we know how you feel...I myself had a SketchUp project to complete over the weekend and I too ran into the upgrade problem, so I truly shared this experience with you. We had a bunch of folks work this weekend to fix the problem. But that's what we do. We handle it, and go on with our work.

This message is meant to say that we feel your pain, and we do care. A lot! We ARE working harder and we are working smarter. And you can bet your _ _ _ that I'll mention AtLast because that's where the spirit started. That is why are now Google. The spirit and enthusiasm here is incredible! We care and we're working towards a better future and a better SketchUp. We love what we do regardless of the difficulties and problems we face. We also appreciate your feedback because it is important and helpful towards our goal to make everyone who uses SketchUp happy and productive.

      Cheers,

I have many objections about working (google su team) smarter (at least). And please don't use @Last name any more.

Yes Dennis, we'd be very interested! We may want to take a look at the file to see where it's crashing. Let us know about your test, and we'll go from there.

Thank you also to Sketchy and Paul Miller. We appreciate it. It truly hurts us when something goes wrong that affects you guys in a negative way.

I've said it before...WE CARE A LOT ABOUT YOU GUYS! We're working very hard on the future of SketchUp and quality is on the top of the list. We've also noted the problems over the past year with delivery and communication and we aim to not repeat any mistakes.

Please continue to have faith in us. We're working harder and smarter every day. πŸ˜„

Hehe! Except if it unexpectedly switched at 40mph! πŸ˜‰ Cool idea though...from cruiser to sportbike in 2 seconds! Interesting center frame pivot and extendable head stock. Now if they could put a 150 bhp engine in one, I'd be much more interested! πŸ˜‰

My friend, who works at the Google headquarters in California, has a commuter bicycle that folds up to the size of a brief case! Aluminum frame with gears and everything! It's pretty slick.

My opinion is that discussions around any part of your work flow that has SketchUp as a component, could be useful to other users and therefore relevant. Perhaps a new forum category for help with parts of your work flow that are outside of SketchUp would be good...? I certainly would be interested in learning about how some folks coordinate different software packages to create their final product.

      Just a thought.

    • RE: So what's in 6.4.112?

Hi Guys, we're looking into the problem. The upgrade was/is intended to be a choice just like all earlier upgrades.

We will get to the bottom of this as soon as possible.

We still are the AtLast guys, we still deeply care about you and your user experience, and consider how any/every change affects you. Please do not take a problem with the updater as any indication of our dedication to you as Google. Unforeseen problems do occur, and we will figure this out as soon as we can.

      Thanks for your patience!

That's some nice looking work Fernando! I would also look at what Coen was referring too...some of the faces in your sink look to be back side faces. Select them and right click to choose "Reverse Faces" and that should fix the problems.

    • RE: Female figure on curved up background (not suited for work)

Beautiful renders, and artfully done. Provocative art is what art is all about IMO. I was raised by an Artist (still life, oil on canvas, medium to large format) and my mom would always ask me what thoughts a piece would provoke. ...if it did not provoke any thought or emotion, then it's not very good.

I respect this forum, its contributers and its moderators very much. The ability to share provocative art, discuss it professionally, and have the moderators paying keen attention with thoughts of inclusion versus misinterpretation is the balance of life. No risks, no rewards. A sheltered life, is not a life.

I only wish the moderators were given a bit more freedom for being human as well as working to make sure there is balance here. Please, let's give them all the freedom to take risks as well, and lets keep this place a safe place to make mistakes and push boundaries. It's the spice of life I think!

Keep up the good work; artistically, emotionally, intellectually, and professionally!

      Thanks for sharing!
