    • Large vray scene (for A0 hoarding) render settings advice

      Hi

Does anyone have any tips in what settings to use for such a large scene?

Its an exterior, I have had test renders and it looks good, but the A0 version is taking forever to render even at a render farm.

Im thinking my Image sampler Adaptive DMC settings might be too high 2/5 and irradiance map -3/-6 (are these the wrong way round).

      Any suggestions?

Should I save out the Irradiance map and Light cache, or do you think a renderfarm should be able to cope?

      I have attached the settings.

      Thanks

    • RE: [Plugin] Very fast texture writer

      Hi

      Does this work in SU2016?

I cant see it anywhere after install, although the ruby script "fast_tw +" works in extracting all but 4 out of maybe 15 materials in my sample model.

Is there an icon for this or menu shortcut in SU16 or is it only usable by Ruby?

      Thanks

    • RE: RT Render on SU 2015 not rendering. Help.

      The RT Engine settings are:

      Enable - ticked
      Use Gi - ticked
      Reflect Caustics - unticked
      RT Mode - RT CPU
      AA threshold - 0.001
      Show AA mask - unticked
Stop when render done - unticked
      Performance
      Ray Bundle size - 16
      TRace Depth - 5
      GI Depth - 3
      Refract Caustics - ticked
      OpenCL Texture Size - 512
      Max render time - 0.0
      Maximum sample level - 0
      Rays per Pixel - 4

      Does that help!? ๐Ÿ˜„

    • RT Render on SU 2015 not rendering. Help.

      I have SU 2015

I have VRAY 2 with RT.

      I also have VRAY Express.

When ever I try to use RT it gets so far as stating 'preparing global light manager' but the render screen remains black.

I do a normal render and everything appears and is in order.

I set the view widow real small as well to 400 x 300

      What settings am I missing?

      Win 7
      64 Bit
      SU 2015
      RAM 16 GB
Intel COre i7 processor CPU 2.30 GHz
      GeForce GT 650M graphics card

      Thanks

    • Reduce polygons of imported fabric retaining quality

      Hi

I'm beginning to appreciate, that objects such as soft furnishings, clothes and fabrics are best modeled in other 3D modelling programes and imported into SU.

I've recently been playing with Marvelous Designer to create bedding objects and have been using these in 3DSMax with no problems but would also like to use the Marvelous designer .obj files in SU as well.

I import these into SU via the SimLab Obj Importer plugin, but im finding that when imported the models are huge in polygons, slow down SU considerably and on close inspection are not particularly smooth objects, with polygons clearly appearing in test renders (please see attached pic).

Having tried what SU has to offer (soften/Smooth edges and Artisan reduce polygons) im getting no where, and everything is taking for ever to calculate. Where as in 3DS, everything is computed very quickly, smoothly without any issues and beautiful renders.

I am thinking that the best approach is to after creating the object in Marvelous Designer to export the .obj file then use another piece of software (separate to SU)to reduce the polygon count and then import this into SU.

So I would like to know if any one out there could recommend said piece of software, from forums I see that Blender, Zbrush (pixilogic and Decimation Master plugins), and Milkshape are talked of as offering effective pixel reduction.

What I am aiming to do must be a real common task for many 3d artists using SU. Id be interseted to know the work flow people use and specifically how to reduce exported models from Marvelous Designer that SU can cope with, without any noticeable reduction in the quality of the final 3D object.

      Thanks
