It is a thing asked about from time to time which would have been made already if it was possible.

then why don't people at SU development do something about it? 😠 πŸ˜†

We don't do anything about this because it isn't something that can be done. SketchUp's inference system is designed to be on all the time– never turned off. SketchUp without geometric inference wouldn't really be usable.

      john
      .

I wasted 1 week trying to snap an object vertex point to another plane object vertex (all the original model from 3d wharehouse had a lot of mistakes). Finally all the model was reconstructed by me but based in one of the faces that I thought it was a perfect plane...
The snap distance needed is shorter than the smallest allowed by the model units options and I need it to correct the rotation angle of the first object, which is not perfectly parallel to axis. Without making it parallel, when is saved SU "corrects" the geometry and brakes all the group.

This is what I call "wouldn't really be usable". 😒

    • RE: What are the rules for location of rubies on a Mac?

I'm not ruby programmer but some installers require you a specific directory. May be the loader expects to find some things on a specific placement.

As you know we can get several user accounts with the same directory structure and SU will search for plugins in a determinate order (I read it somewhere). I'm not sure but it could be in the plugins folder inside SU application, then the general library, shared library, user library, and so on.

I just collected all of them in my user account/library/application support/GoogleSketchup 7/Sketchup/plugins. All excepting those that are using an installer but probably most of them would work the same.

Finally, I don't understand why some rubys needs another location to work.

Some problems may need file permissions verification (I tried all possibilities with pipping plugin without success.

I'm mac user for 25 years and eventually a windows user too. I have some PCs for my children to broke. The last PC I have been using at home went away from my window.

Probably this is just a a matter of personal preference and frustration is not in my list but I can ensure you one thing: PCs can't fly!

Which of those apps takes all that horsepower? SU, if you resist the temptation to model a forest leaf-by-leaf, performs superbly on an inexpensive Windows desktop with a little extra RAM.

Unless one of those other apps is a real burner, I'd save on the computer and spend on a really big monitor. 1920x1200 on 24" LCD is a real joy.

      I agree

Don't spend your money in short life-cycle technology parts

The console doesn't work, so I threw a bag of snacks on the table and the oracle said:

I have most of them in my user library excepting those which use an installer and choose the general library folder. I just had a problem (not solved yet) with 3skenglt pipping plugin.
Some plugs may install a folder or component on a specific location outside of the library.

      This is a perfect work.
I found it in 3d wharehouse some time ago and downloaded it to use some of them as complement for my apartment.

      THANK YOU!

      You are right mac1
Geometry is not my priority at this moment as I told you in my PM. I will try different possibilities to give the model a natural look before the final render in SU.

Thank you very much, I'm impressed by the help received from the forum.

One more suggestion now that you have the scale problem fixed.
Re-size your model up say maybe 500x, try your intersections at that size and then re-size back down when finished.
Rational: 1)You did that the first time with the scale tool and it worked?; 2) There have been many postings about SU having problems with edges in the few mm range and maybe that is what is happening now and was previously.

      1. Yes I did it that way with the faulty docs before the problem begins.
      2. Now I made a re-size using the tape method and after some attempts I finally could intersect the last arm, leg, and face but I was getting some opened faces that I need to close manually. Here it is:

Now is time to triangulate the model and try the sculpture tools plugin to polish the shape

Perhaps copy and paste him into a clean model might help?

This one is already a copy in a new document πŸ˜†

I'm using now the document named "winnie2", my original backup. I fixed the scale problem but still It's driving me crazy with the intersections. Using bootools I'm getting weird results and sometimes SU is fixing the model.

Each time I finish the intersection of a new group and try to do the next one it says the one or the second group is not a valid solid.
Invalid? I'm invalid, not you, stupid bear! 😑

    • RE: [Info/Request] Sections division

Yes, this is very simple. You can probably do it more complicated, like doing any number of sections on any 3d shape and the division of each section at the same time, choosing the degrees, etc.

Or may be pie charts from xml or tabulated text document...

If the group or component I am scaling is the total model then??
I opened a question in the group help to see if someone has further clarification.

I agree with you, that's why I was not afraid of using the scale tool in my case.

    • RE: I guess it's time to go back to painting class

I was always very humble about my ability. In fact, the difference between a highly-gifted person a normal one is just the age, the early ability. It doesn't means that they will progress much more after that. Probably I was the better when I was at school, but it was another pupil who was very good too and when I went to some competition I discovered that there were many children like us. That teach me to be humble and to accept that I will find many people now better than me. πŸ˜‰

The most interesting thing about young artists is the innocent vision they have and the sensibility they reflect. To put an example you can find what I am saying in the paleolithic pictures of Lascaux (France) or Altamira (Spain), and that will help to understand the mediterranean influence in Picasso and the permanent searching of the essence in art.
