RE: Can Wives / Girlfriends become jealous of Laptops?
Mike, here is a true life story. My friend who was studying first year architecture degree with me about 6 years ago was contemplating getting a lappy for his work. At the time he was living on the ground floor of a large 3 storey Victorian house and one night heard a loud thud while cooking in the kitchen, at the time he didn't think much of it. Next morning however glancing into the garden he realised what he heard the previous night was a Macbook Pro 15" landing from the second floor window. Apparently the couple who lived upstairs from him had a huge row over the guy spending too much time on this new lappy and in a moment of jealouse rage she threw it out of the window. Apparently everything except the screen was working fine.
A penny for your thought

RE: 3dconnexion mouse space navigator
Well I mainly use space navigator to get in and out of surfaces when you get 'stuck'. You can also use it to zoom in better. Fact is you save something like 1 sec of scrolling time when you accidentally get stuck behind a surface which happens often. That alone is enough for me to use it. However, I don't keep my hand on the Navigator when modelling. Keyboard shortcuts is just plain faster.

RE: WalkAbout3d - plugin for SU
79 quid! thats outrageous!!!!!!! A Space Navigator is a lot cheaper and you can do more with it!

RE: Large Hadron Collider
The problem of the world isn't going to be solved by pouring money that would have otherwise gone to the Collider. Thats very naive Toxic. Pouring money often made things worse.

RE: SketchUpbbsNew works-SHANGHAI KTV DESIGN SketchUp+Artlantis
Nice Sketchup work. I have issue with the design however. Its all a bit too oppulent and busy for my taste. Then again it is in Shanghai after all.

RE: Hi! iRender vs Vray?
Well having had a go at Podium, Vray and iRender I'd have to say Vray is without a doubt the best renderer out of the three. The so called steep learning curve applies only when you want to do advanced material manipulation like refraction etc. You can just press render without any change to setting and due to having a global illumination setting by defualt the results are always decent. Also Vray has a very good and active forum for learning how to do advanced stuff.

RE: You have to laugh (or you would cry).
I wouldn't neccessarily think that lacking geographical knowledge equates to stupidity, however, it does show the American education system in a pretty bad light.

Henry Kinsinger observed wisely that 'No great power retreats forever' just before UK decided to jump into the Falklands Conflict with Argentina. Same rules apply.

RE: V-Ray v.s. Fryrender?
According to what I know Fryrender like Maxwell are both un-biased renderers. This means they use physically accurate algorithms to calculate light thus making their renders more convincing. However this also make them take longer. V-Ray is a biased renderer. Its one of the fastest. If you have a 8-core rendering machine and don't mind spending the electricity and time then go for Fry or Maxwell. Me with my humble duo-core lappy is sticking to Vray for sure.

RE: Things that really piss you off
People who feel superior just by having traveled more. Surely its what you do while you are there that matters?
