    • Any one having problems with Profile Builder 3?

I've used Profile Builder since the first version. I recently upgraded to PB3 and am having great trouble as it is not working with the Sketchup VCB. I reinstalled PB2 to test and that version works fine.

In PB2 if I select a profile drag my direction and enter a length in the VCB window. The profile group is created to that length. This does not work in PB3. In PB3, after I've dragged the direction, the VCB will not allow any input. I have to click an end point. Entering a length after clicking does not affect the group created by PB3, whereas any other Sketchup tool, including PB2 will accept and adjust to entered VCB input.

In addition, Esc does not get me out of a BP3 process as it does in PB2. I have to click an end point to exit PB3. And if the distance is incorrect, I must open the group and edit it as the VCB does not function.

Anyone else having problems with PB3? I did send an email to Mindsight last week but no response yet.

I don't remember installing any specific driver. But I would think a driver problem would affect AutoCad and the other software as well.

Have you removed/cleaned the plugin folder before you reinstalled SU?

I don't remember, but considering none of the plugins started after the re install and I had to re install them all, probably.

if launching SU without resp with an empty document requires minute(s) there is surely something havoc normally not related to hardware. Is there any CPU activity related to SU during startup (see Windows Task Manager: "Win+R > taskmgr")?

First do an uninstall, restart Windows with the desired user account (not admin etc.) and launch the SU setup routine by "right-click > Run as Admin".

Ensure that no plugins (besides the SU natives) are installed/running (see "Window > Extension Manager...").

If you can get hold of (e.g. lend) another graphics card (nVidia GeForce GTX rec.), rip off the FirePro v5900 (being lame anyhow) and give it a try.

I think that was my process when I last reinstalled.
My machines do not have multiple users or accounts set up. I believe I am the administrator.

We are off today for the 4th. I'll check the taskmgr when I'm back at work tomorrow.

I am looking at trying a GTX 1060 or 1060.

    • SU extremely slow. Could RYZEN processor be responsible?

In responding to another thread, I thought I should ask the question here.

I just built a new machine with a RYZEN 7 processor. The machine boots in 15 seconds, and all my software (AutoCad, Rhino 6, etc.) works much faster, All EXCEPT Sketchup. I don't know what the problem is and if it relates to Ryzen, but Sketchup takes almost a minute to load, as does almost any SU file. Once loaded, it functions normally.

I've removed Sketchup and reinstalled with the same result, even before adding plugins. Again, I don't know if this is a Ryzen problem, but SU 2018 worked better on my previous 7-year-old intel machine.

I just built this system with a RYZEN 7. Great performance for price. A huge improvement from my previous 2011 first gen Intel i7. The new machine boots in 15 seconds! All software works much faster, AutoCad, Rhino 6, etc. All EXCEPT Sketchup. I don't know what the problem is and if it relates to Ryzen, but Sketchup takes almost a minute to load, as does opening almost any SU file. Once loaded, it functions normally. I've removed Sketchup and reinstalled with the same result, even before adding plugins. Again, I don't know if this is a Ryzen problem and should put it to the Sketchup people.

I removed and reloaded Sketchup. It still hangs and is horrendously slow to start up. Even before adding plugins. My Rhino and Autocad are much faster on this machine where SU hangs often. Could this be a problem with RYZEN and SU. Any suggestions?

the models of the CAD series (nVidia Quadro, AMD FirePro) of comparable performance are regularly more expensive than the consumer series (nVidia GeForce, AMD Radeon). If comparing in the same price range the Quadro will be slower resp. the GeForce will be faster and therefore have a bigger footprint.

I'm currently finding this to be correct as I do research. However, in the past it was easier to find FirePros cheaper than Radeons.

The Power consumption is important for my ITX machine with its small PSU. At this point I'm looking at the Quadro P1000 which draws 47w. I'll see if an equivalent GTX 10XX can be had for less.

At least for SketchUp, the GeForce cards will give you more bang for the bug than the Quadro cards. A GTX10** would be a good choice.

As for what you show in your screen shot, I'm not sure you can blame that on the graphics card although if you haven't done so, make sure the drivers are up to date.

When you installed SketchUp, did you right click on the installer file and select Run as administrator? If you didn't, do that next and when you are presented with the option, choose Repair.

Thanks for the response. Repair didn't help.

Also, what do you think are the benefits of the GTX over the Quadros? They seem to have price similar price points and look like a bigger footprint. (My machine is an ITX box)

    • Video Card question.

I built my new machine two months ago and the parts I transferred from the old was my 1TB data drive and the video card. AMD Firepro V5900. I'm getting some minor video errors in SU and AutoCad that I did not have before. Nothing I can't live with, I'm beginning to think I should upgrade the card. (It was released in 2011) I read that nVidia cards work better with SU and Rhino, was wondering if a Quadro P1000 might be a good choice? Anyone know the differences between the Quadro K line vs the P line? At any rate I'm up for suggestions.

The pic is an example of the minor display problems. This is in SU.

Thanks for the info TIG. I did the repair, but no good. It still will not remember traysand speed is off. ("Repair" did not work for Rhino either.) I'm going check a few things, but I expect complete removal is and reinstall is necessary. I think I'm going to install plugins one by one instead of the bundle and see if there might be something there.

Edit: My second restart and it remembered the trays. The slow start might be related to plugins. Can I start switching off plugins and add them back one by one?

    • Problems with speed and retaining custom changes.

I recently built a new computer and loaded SU 2018 Pro. I was running the program on my 8 year old first gen i7 machine with no problems. The new machine boots in 15 seconds. SU takes at least a minute to load, to the point where I get the "Not responding" message. If I wait it will load.

My second problem is that SU does not remember my Tray customizations. I make new trays, but when I restart, they are lost and only the default tray returns.

I suspect these problems may be related to a failed Microsoft update which MS had to correct. (I loaded SU before the fix) The failure affected several later program updates not installing correctly. Rhino6 would not run after a version update and McNeel could not remote fix it until the Windows update was successfully installed.

I'm expect I'll need to reinstall SU. Tell me I can do it without having to reload all the plugins and rebuild my workspace?

      The machine is:
      Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
      AMD Ryzen 7 1700X Eight-Core Processor, 3400 Mhz
BIOS American Megatrends Inc. 3803, 1/22/2018
BaseBoard ASUST Strix ROG iTX B350
      Installed Physical Memory 16.0 GB
Video Card AMD FirePro V5900 (FireGL V)
      Storage Samsung m.2 960 EVO 500gb SSD

Is there some way to increase the size of the text in the SU dimension tool. I just built a new computer and I don't remember the text printing this small. I don't remember if I did it some how. The new machine has the same video card from the old one.

    • Why can't I remove bundles from SU Extension Store Tools?

Maybe I'm using the utility wrong. I use it as a repository of plugins installed on my machine in case I need to do a reinstall. I currently have 11 bundles going back to 2015 on machines that no longer exist. Why do I have to keep these? I would like the bundle to contain the most current list. Can I update it?

I always tend to go nVidia as AMD are not so good with SketchUp and GPU accelerated rendering.

I think when I built my last machine in 2011 this was reversed.

With Rhino6 I have to switch off "GPU Tessalation" in my Firepro for it to work right. I don't know of any problems with nVidia Quadros. Still, Quadros are not cheap. I'll be on the lookout for a good used P2000 in the future.

    • ATI FirePro V5900 to what?

I just built a new Win 10 ITX machine with RYZEN 7 1700X, 16 GB 3200 DDR4, and m2.500gb primary drive on and Asus ROG Strix B350-I motherboard. However, I used my ATI FirePro V5900 (2gb) Video card from my old first gen i7 machine. Everything works fine, but that card is pretty dated. Still, I don't know if that means it's not a good choice? Would a more modern Video Card offer better and NOTICEABLE performance? If so, any suggestions? I also like to get parts used. My V5900 was $90 used several years ago, and updated a V4800.

I'm using this machine mainly for AutoCAD, Sketchup, Rhino6, and Corel.
