For #2 - if it's not showing up on other pages, then it's on the wrong layer. It's pretty easy to check what layer things are drawn on. To do this, right click on the layer name and select "Select Entities", and everything drawn on that layer will be selected. Alternatively, you can select an item, for example a text box, and in the layer inspector you'll see a little blue dot show up on the layer that the entity is on.

To move an item to the correct layer, select the correct layer in the layer inspector, then right click on the item and select "move to current layer". Then re-save your template.

Let me know if that helps.

Here's an example with 2 scenes using 2 different styles with different section cut settings that were created in SketchUp and sent to LayOut.

    • RE: Better support for other file formats

You have to convert the PDF to some raster format using Gimp & Ghostscript to insert into PC LayOut. I dug out some old instructions I passed on, so this may be somewhat dated:

Download GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program) from http://www.gimp.org/downloads/ and Ghostscript from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ghostscript/. Install both, and copy Copy the executable gswin32c.exe from the directory bin of the ghostscript installation to C:\Windows. Launch GIMP, open a PDF, save as some other format.

      Hi, Jerome -

Glad to hear you're trying LayOut.

      1. You should unlock the "Unique Elements" layer to edit the page number. There isn't an automatic way to modify the page number (with a macro) at this time.

      2. You should create a scene for each section cut, and match the scene name in SketchUp with the scene you have selected in LayOut. You should set your Section Cut line width in your style in SketchUp, and associate that style with the scene you want it in. I just tried it, and upped my section cut width setting to "7" to a a much bolder look. In LayOut, you only control overall line weight.

Let me know if that helps.

    • RE: Construction & Working Drawings - Discussion

I should add one other clue for the experts in the crowd: LayOut files are zipped files, containing resources and XML. Look at styleManager.xml in the unzipped directory to see all the style defaults.

The tool defaults are set by the templates, so if you create a document to the style you like, and File->Save as Template, then all those things should be set properly for you.

      Thanks, Jim!!!

I don't normally hang out in the Corner Bar (your joke inserted here), but another Googler pointed this out to me. I'm normally on the LayOut forums and handling Mac questions, but I also work with Project Spectrum (http://sketchup.google.com/spectrum). If anyone is doing this kind of work or if you're interested but don't know where to start, please don't hesitate to give a shout out.

    • RE: Automatic page for scene tab

That last sentence should have read "for the stand-in MODEL that's in the LayOut template."

Let me know if that's not clear.

    • RE: Automatic page for scene tab

Create a simple SketchUp template with scenes (your model with the scenes but not the model). Send that to your LayOut template (File->Send to LayOut), and then adjust the number of pages and scenes on each page. File->Save as Template. Now send your model to LayOut and it should substitute your model for the stand-in template that's in the LayOut template.

    • RE: Osx : SketchUp wants to access my keychain

If you look at /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, you'll see that there's a "Warehouse Authorization Token". We discussed this when it came out that it wasn't very Mac-like, but it's really the cleanest/easiest way to handle interaction with the warehouse. If this is a huge problem for you, I could file a feature request and link to this thread. Let me know.

    • RE: Layout Printing Issues

Adjusting the grid opacity is a regression bug. I just tried it in 2.0 and it worked, but LayOut doesn't respect grid line opacity settings in 2.1. Ouch. Sorry.

    • RE: Layout Printing Issues

Looking at this closely, and since you've gone to the work of doing a very nice quality rendering, I'm guessing the PDF->JPG->PDF conversion will be lacking. The last (maybe) question I have: Is the intended output the PDF document or printed output? Sorry I don't have any better answers for you at this point.

    • RE: Layout Printing Issues

Just so others on the group could see this, I took that last PDF image, and converted to JPG (ImageViewer.app on Mac), and the lines lightened. I converted back to PDF, and they stayed light. I've attached the PDF. But is that output acceptable, and are you on PC? I'll try PC + GIMP.

    • RE: Layout Printing Issues

Thanks for the clarification, and no need to apologize for English or spelling.

These are our grid lines (File->Document Setup->Grid), right? I'm seeing it as well, and I'm trying to find you a workaround but I'm not seeing one. The thickness isn't set-able, and there appears to be an opacity bug (I was thinking that you could adjust opacity to get a better look, but the bug prevents that). I'll think about this some more for a better workaround, but this is a bug and I'll file it. Thanks.

    • RE: Layout Printing Issues

Do me a favor and trim down the document that shows exactly what you mean in one location, or circle it like I did in red in LayOut. I think I'm seeing it, sorta, but I want to be sure.

Also by "plants" do you mean "plans"? And are these renderings not from SketchUp, or why are you using jpg's instead of just inserting the model?

    • RE: Layout Printing Issues

Just so I'm clear, is this missing model / view the only difference between the jpg & pdf? Can you copy that model onto another page or another document and export to pdf successfully? Is the model raster or vector rendered, and will it succeed if you change the rendering?

    • RE: Wrong export to PDF

I'm seeing it, too, using Arabic or Hebrew. Inserting an RTF doesn't change it. PC only, Mac is OK. Filing a bug. Thanks. The not-very-good workaround would be to output to output a page to a png file, then insert the png image into PDF. Or get a Mac.

    • RE: Viewport scale changes on update

Do you have "Preserve Scale on Resize" checked (it's in the SketchUp Model Inspector's View tab)? I just tried it with the standard views with ortho projection, and when I changed the scale on each scene, it added "(Modified)" in front of each of the scene names, but did NOT change the scaling when I changed geometry and materials.

I may not be doing thing exactly the way you are, so here's what I did: I created a simple SketchUp model with 7 scenes, each with Camera->Parallel Projection, and the 7 views you get from Camera->Standard Views. I sent this to layout, and created 7 pages, each with a page matching the name of the view (top, bottom, etc...) and changed the scale to 1/4" = 1' (1:48) on each page. Preserve scale on resize was checked.

I then went back to SketchUp and changed a few things (geometry of building, materials, etc...), updated a scene, saved, then back to LayOut and updated the skp model reference. Everything stayed the same for me. More info if you can, because if this is happening, I can see how it would be a pain.

    • RE: FILE CRASHES LAYOUT

Just an FYI - we got this file, and could fix one error, but it had two major errors. The second resulted in me having to delete 5 of 20 pages which will have to be recreated. If anyone gets a file that wont open or crash, please send it in via Help->Contact Us and file a bug. If you put your information (and ask if bjanzen can take a look), I'll try to fix. Thanks to pgarch and others for helping us try to track this down.
