Illustrator - Export
Good Day All,
I am an avid Sketch Up fan and I was wondering if you guys had a tip or 2 on exporting line work for illustrator purposes. I am currently working on a personal project for possible portfolio material.
I was wondering if anyone knew a method of export that is Rhino-esque in terms of MAKE2D.
My intention is to export a line drawing that would have "hidden" lines very much like how we press K, so that it gives the perception of Depth on a 2D drawing, whilst showing the foreground line work clearly.
Please let me know thank you in advance
Cheers.

RE: Is it a bug?
@Rich i feel really stupid right now... should have corrected the boss and said transparent PNG haha...being asian sucks at times.. makes me forget to think... and just do >___<~
@Jimny yes sir thats the problem.. Actually when @Kris mentioned it might be down to computer performance I am pretty surprise. I am running a decent quad core machine, 8gb ram and 1gb dedicated gfx card.. and the file is a small curvy 3 story club house.. i am really sad if my machine cant handle the gfx...

RE: Is it a bug?
Hope I am not bugging you guys too much
But I have an additional question as well.
I normally don do photo-realistic renders.. Rather I do overlays of sketchup images to create mood - styled pictorials..
I was some an avid green screen fan, so I thought I had applied that logic to my exports by having the ground as a lime green colour.. For easier crop etc..etc...
However, I was using the free SU 2013 and exporting a JPG only to realise the shadow had hints of green on them..
Any idea if that was a bug or just the setting I am exporting?
Cheers.

Is it a bug?
Good Day All,
I have been using Sketchup for years but I sorta dont question much about the possible bugs and all. I had a question the other day from someone who basically asked why does the sketchup visual go into "the MRI mode" when we are rotating in a view...
I thought it was a bug that had been embedded and since SU was not really updated for long time.. I never really probed about it.
Just wondering if any of you share this problem and if you had any solutions to the effect.
I understand that the problem could be due to parallel projects, but the mode i was on is actually perspective.. I thought it would be fine.. but yea.. weirdly enough the view started to warp and all..
Cheers.

RE: How Do They Do It? - Renderings
@valerostudio said:
Being a better rendering artist is so much more. It's about understanding the art and not so much the software or technique. I would say that it more important to understand good composition and light balance than to know how to use an HDRI or what Fresnel is. The software tricks is something that should come later. Grab a sketch book and some watercolor paint and go today and draw something. So many of us on here are stuck behind the mouse we lose the artistic side of things and get hung up on bump mapping and Photoshop layers.
Thank you for your insight!

Thank you all for your responses! I really really appreciate it
I think right now I am just trying to render better...
I am quite sad that sometimes, an idea just cant seem to be "conveyed" across just because the render is not "powerful" enough. Hence I am determined to learn to better my level of rendering!
At this juncture I fail to use the HDR setting to its full capabilities.
I will really have to try out. Hopefully there are more "architecture" related tutorials. Cause most tutorials focus on really small items like furniture or a particular room with the light up setting play around.. its hard to "super-size" it i guess -
RE: How Do They Do It? - Renderings
Hey Krisidious, thanks!! Yeah, I have been trolled pretty hard on the other forums that I visited, but I notice here it is pretty calm So decided to join you guys
I was wondering though, the program that my friends seem to reckon is actually 3D Max or Maya. I am currently trying to replicate it with iRender which I got recently, but it seems impossible to get that style
Was wondering if there is any good tutorials or ways about this
In anyway Thanks Kris for welcoming!!

How Do They Do It? - Renderings
I have always felt that I can hardly contribute to the forums as there are so many masters around already! Recently I thought I give back to the community by subscribing to the Premium membership. My little excuse to get all the freebies and benefits as well I have been enjoying it but again probably a passive watcher than an active participant.
Here is my first post / thread as I try to โbreakout of the mouldโ. Hopefully the community could shed light as to how I could go about improving my Sketchup renderings.
I have always been a simple โrenderingโ guy. I use SUPodium or V-Ray to render. I donโt really tweak many settings and I photoshop ridiculous amount of information on top of them. Recently my attention has started to shift towards skyscrapers, and I noticed that their renders are absolutely stunning.
Example:
I was wondering if someone could advise me how I could get there to this level of โmetallic finishโ / glass reflecting / sun ray warming renders.
Thank you for your time!
