RE: My first render
VERY nice! The only thing that jumps out at me, and its just a personal opinion, is that they roof tiles seem to be really bright and dominant. If it were me, I would use a color more subtile than the red. But again, it's only my opinion and you did an awesome job!

Change default style
Can someone please refresh my memory on how to edit the default style? I did it once and changed the color of the lines to match the color of the axes, but now I want to change it back so that the lines are black. Thanks.

How to model a 2 story house?
I have a floorplan that has the first and second floor plan views and a front elevation/rendering. I can model the first floor no problem. But once that's done, I don't know how to get started with the second floor. This house is for a very simple model, I don't need interiors, just the exterior if that helps. Here's the floor plan and elevation if that helps.

RE: [Tutorial > Modeling] Basic Roof
In step 4 of the tutorial, it says to "extend the roof profile to half the largest distance." I understand what that means, but I don't know how to do that. Can someone please explain? I'm sure it's an easy step.

I'm glad I'm not the only one and someone else posted before me!

RE: Privacy & the Upper story deck
Susan,
I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. Here's what I was suggesting. You can do the same one both sides of the deck as needed. Hopefully your neighbors will be ameanable to a plan similar to this. You can always plant your trees in a hedge a little closer together if they won't.

Google Earth imagry, .shp files and sketchup
I need some help and am not sure where to post this so please feel free to move to a more appropriate section if necessary.
I have a co-worker who is working on siting a transmission (High voltage powerlines) line across approximately 150 miles of terrain. She needs to make an animation of a flythrough along the route. She created all of the components in Sketchup and placed them in Google Earth Pro, however, the animation quality is unacceptable and very "shakey".
Her plan now is to overlay the .shp files over the Google Earth Imagery and then export that to 3dMax to create a flythrough without the route "shaking". Will this work? It's obvious that the files are extremely large and sketchup won't be able to process all the .shp file data, so that's why she is considering 3dMax.
Here is where we need your help. 1. Can .shp files be imported into 3dMax? 2. Can the Google Earth (.kmz)files be imported into 3dMax (She can convert the .shp files to .kmz files). 3. Lastly, is there an easier way to go about this? We're open to other programs if they don't have too steep of a learning curve. We just have to have the project finished by next Tuesday. The data is complete, we just need to merge it all together! Thanks in advance for your help!

RE: Privacy & the Upper story deck
Susan, can you post your model? If you can, I'll drop a few in and then figure out how to post it back for you.

RE: Privacy & the Upper story deck
Being a Landscape Designer, this comes up alot! We try to plant the biggest trees we can find in strategic locations to provide said privacy. A 48" boxed tree would be somewhere in the 16-20' (planted) height category depending on species and cost in the neighborhood of $2,500-$3,000 U.S. Careful pruning and maintenance is important as the trees continue to grow.

Housebuilder question
I just finished the frame of my house using housebuilder. Now I'm want to add a texture to the roof and siding. If I texture the skin that housebuilder created, then I can see the frames from the inside through the skin. What do you do to get around this? I've thought of either turning of the lines or possibly adding another "skin" to the plane and extrude it 1/2" or so in order to get a clean texture. Any thoughts?

RE: How to create buildings with imported floor plans?
What about turning all the layers on and then selecting all the lines and moving them in the negative "Z axis" direction a ways so that your lines will directly above your reference lines?

Thanks Chris! I was looking on their main site. No wonder I couldn't find it.

RE: Intro
Chris,
Can you post a link to the cabinet downloads? I searched their site without any luck. I need to redo my kitchen layout and some pre-made cabinet models would really help. Thanks!

Those look great. Looks like a bit of moire effect on the brick on the first image, though.
I think the models are off to a great start!
Forgive the newbie question, but what is "moire effect"?
