    • RE: Which render application is fastest to setup?

Gaieus - That's also why I was curious about the setup time!
A lot of tropics about render app. is about time/quality and that I found out by trying (speed)and looking i galleries (quality).

But setup time is very important for me, and then the render process can run when I'm going home!

      Thanks again! πŸ‘

      Thanks for the comments! β˜€

My big consern about Podium was the "missing" materiallibrary, that other app. hase. But maeby it's just a matter of practice?

For my use it's not a must that all renders are totaly photorealistic, it's more to help illustrate the architecture/spaces!
On the other hand it's nice to have the opportunity to make really nice pictures, and I know how nice renders some of you guys can make in podium, so I just have to practice.

    • Which render application is fastest to setup?

      Hi

I've been playing with different render applications, Podium, Indigo, Kerkythea, Vray4su and Artlantis.
I found out that all applications can produce nice images, but I've never tried them in a working situation with a lot of updates and rerenderings as the project is taking form (archviz).

What is your experience? Which render do you find fastest to set up?

I hope you will give me your opinion!

    • RE: [POLL]: If SU 7 will not have multicore/high poly support

      I love sketchup!!

I also love looking back to the time on my Commodore 64, but guess what, later I bought a Commodore Amiga. πŸ€“

      If software/hardware arn't updated/developed it's just a matter of time before it's history!

Google is a large company fighting to gain marked, and I'm sure they didn't buy Sketchup just to let it die.

    • RE: [POLL]: If SU 7 will not have multicore/high poly support

Well FormZ has announced Bonsai 3D and Microsoft/Solidworks has 3DVia (the interface stinks).

I really like Sketchup, but I'm not the big user.
After I started my own Architectural company 1Β½ years ago I found out that our main app. had to be AutoDesk Architecture, as our main work is on the construction site, and it's our customers demand.

But I also found that Sketchup is far the fastest/most easy tool for design, better (for us) than 3DS Max we thought was indispensable as I used it in my earlier job.

All the e.g. scripts, renders that Sketchup can work with makes it at great tool, and when you see work like e.g. "Silver Shadow" it makes you realise that modeling problems comes from bad skills and not from Sketchups capabilities.

Anyway I hope that SU7 will have the high poly support, multicore support, organic modeling tools, and other stuff, so Sketchup can keep leeding the "easy modeling" race.
If not, I'm afraid that other app. will run it over and the hardcore usergroup will decrease in the future.

    • I had a dream!

      Hi sketchup lovers

The past night I had a dream! Sketchup 7 was released!! (maeby I'm working too much πŸ˜‰ )

There were 3 releases, Skethup Free, Skethup Pro (500$) and Sketchup Ultimate (2000$).
I don't know which version I was testing, but it had NURBS/Sub poly mesh support and a really nice real time render (must have been the Ultimate edition πŸ˜› ).

But best of all it was still as easy to use as sketchup 6!

It was a bit sad waking up to the real world to see that we are still waiting for SU7. Anyway I hope that Google will make my dream come true in near future.

    • RE: Trim group/component?

      Thanks Remus

Yes I'm aware of that feature!

But I'm working on a grass field made of many faces i a component. And its VERY slow to cut it the way you explain. Thats where I miss a function where I can draw a cut line and trim the part of the component on one of the sides of the line.

I can't be the only one that would find this smart!! 😲

    • Trim group/component?

Is it possible to trim a component/group? Or are there any plugins that can do the job?

I'm thinking of a feature like in Autocad. I realy miss this function i Sketchup!!
