      Gaeius , thanks for care, it was no trouble at all;
My above messages concerning a 2d soft makes me a lot less critical to SU

Jon, sorry for mistaking softcad and cadsoft; I completely agree with your opinion about envisionner.
For the moment I give up my present fever to find that 2D ; no doubt I will come back here if I find the answer

It seems my answer has ben thrown out of the topic
Here is a little analysis of my unseccessful search yet

      (note/10)-- soft-- editor --comment

      wall and partition dynamic components
(4)-- Turbo Floorplan 3d-- imsi-- nice to use, bad 2d look
(3,5)-- 3D architecte classic 2008-- arcon-- good result but hard to draw
      (3,5)-- chief architect
(2)-- 2d softcad-- softcad-- intelligent but hard to use
(2)-- envisionner-- softcad --same engine than floorplan but limited
      (2) --home design-- punch-- not adapted for 2d plans
      designworkshop -- 3d
      smartdraw-- poor look
home plan pro -- not enough
      ez architect -- not enough

      electronic drawing board
      allplan
      arc+
      bentley
      datacad
      draft-it * draftboard
      graphisoft
      litecad very nice little tool
      progecad intellicad
      qcad
      solid edge - siemens
      turboacad

I do not reach the same instinctive and pleasant contact that I love with SU

There are new heat pump air-to-water coming from Japan which works so far than minus 25°C. Here ground surface collectors are not so good, and their productions go down quite a lot after 3 to 4 years.
In France, our numerous nuclear plants distract our governement to be helpful with new energies.

      Hello Alpro
I am OK with you that envisionner is a little instinctive, and I discovered that IMSI has exactly cadsoft envisionner engine, but the result is hard to obtain, and really poor in 2D, and bad in 3D

I feel that no company is interested with 2d, they all go like cannonball to 3D, so they neglect 2D. One example is the impossibility of reaching the centimeter precision with any of them.

In that search, I become very humble with the small imperfections of SU. SU is a wonderful machine, built with precision, intelligence and huge concern of the end user.

    • RE: 22" goodness

      Hello
I recently bought 2x30'dell monitors, it is a complete move to simplicity, the display is something like 2350*1560 and is the size of a A1 sheet; no need to say it avoids a lot of zooms and is favorable to discuss around the display.

The day after they get it , the 2 persons had granted it like normal, and I was obliged to quest for a "yes it is better than before", to justify to me the amount of money, because we had to change the computer too with a good graphic card.

    • RE: 2D software

      Hello
I am having great difficulty to find a simple and expressive 2d cad. The best direction I have at the moment are Express envisioneer, and IMSI floorplan 3d.

But they all lack the SU touch which define keys and automatism right where thay have to be

      • 3d architect have quite a look, but trimmings and dimensionnings are very bad
      • cadsoft 2d is better on the 2nd point but adjusting is bad too, and there is a trigonometric obligation to design connected walls.

I am still doing my plans with SU; it is a pity that conversation seems broken with SU people, because I should have tried to be very convincing for a 2d adaptation.

    • RE: 2D software

      Hello

Thanks for the comments, there are some that I do know, such datacad,Qcad which are powerful, but too complicated from my purpose (electronic drawing table is not what I seek for).

I join an example of a look that I would like to have: Don't say I have it, because 3D architect 2008 is a ache to move walls, connections don't follow, impossible to draw the right length directly, you have to re-place the wall+ the 2 connected walls, no ortho contraint.

For me associated to SU that kind of soft which would have automatic walls, windows... would be the top, to give very quickly the idea of a project to somebody.

I will try litecad, which seems very fluent, and to the others too

    • 2D software

      Hello
I am looking for a 2D software that is same spirit than SU
That soft is not to replace our basic universal 2d (visual cad) but
to find a rapid way to sketch plans and cuts, for designing in 2d,for
first ideas and first moments of creation, just like SU for 3D.

To tell about my search, the best and simplest I found are the non-professionnal
      editions such as:
      3D architect 2008
      Softcad 2D
      Architect 3D

But they look to me unfinished: no trims, no keyboard length typing,
no orthogonal contraint, no alignment, no wheel zooms

I do not like all the Nemetseck, Allplan, Archiplan stuff, with their
      heavy learning curves.

I would be very receptive to any suggestions, bcause I am really stuck.

    • RE: This could have been the future of sketchup?....

      Google is interested in:

      • a library of textures to make GE buildings more realistic, complex reflections, better engine than photomatch to enhace photos on SU faces of models
      • improvements of sand box to model grounds more simply
      • automatic creation of volumes starting from projected shadows out of aerial views
      • encouraging everybody to model and put its own house on GE

      Google does not care about:

      • Layout
      • creating more complex function than those existing
      • SCF, and troublesome actual users
      • getting money from selling SU soft

Advertising on a good spot is thousands times more interesting than complying to that turbulent minority gang of users.

      OK guys,
I give up working directly on USB key; pity, it was so much pleasant to have my work following me, even on my customer computers.

Maybe there are small portable hard disk that are more reliable.

And thank you Anssi for the technical explanation which convinced me quickly and definitly

      Gaieus
I understand easily that USB is slower, but why is it proportionnal to USB size memory
I forgot to indicate: copying the same file from HD to Key is 4s.

I would not like to abandon my question because it is a big problem

When you start the file from the key, you always forget it and get stuck for ten minutes at first automatic saving.
I am surprised to be the only one in that case.

    • Saving time on usb keys

I go everyday from home to office and I find very convenient to have all SU datas on usb keys.
But I am having problems with time savings directly on keys
Here is the time saving panel for different keys

Mo support, secondes , minutes, proportion
      120 HD 7, 0'7 1
      1 sony 125, 2'5, 18
      4 corsair 165, 2'45, 24
      8 kingston 630, 10'30, 90

Does anybody would know a trick to save in a normal time ?
BTW saving from HD to key is very quick, but I get mixed with all saving
datas when they are on 2 HD and one USB keys.
