I do, too; those columns are a component made by someone else many years ago.

haha, I was going to ask if you modeled those corinthian columns πŸ˜„ Nice model overall. πŸ‘

    • RE: Need to split object

are you working in the same active space? The intersect lines won't be added to the molding if you have the molding grouped. The plane should be in the same active context as the molding. (another way to do it if the molding is grouped is to open the molding, select all, and then go to context menu "intersect with model")

ah, didn't realize the aperture override doesn't mean the same thing as in the physical camera. That aperture number is only available to be adjusted when the physical camera is turned off.

Also, I believe that tutorial is for an older version of vray. It used to be that you could use the override with phys camera turned on... several versions ago.

    • RE: Lighting Problem

It's probably in your GI solution, look at your Light Cache or Irradiance Map settings.
For LC - try turning on retrace threshold, set at 0.9
For IM, "check sample visibility" can be enabled. Also, increase the "distance threshold value". Make sure your "HSph. subdivs" value is high enough (could try something like 120)
You can also increase your domelight subdivisions further, maybe try 64

Nice render, btw. Hope you render with some interior lights as well.

How did I miss this thread! - great discussion JQL & Bruce. Working on your own certainly requires a fine balance between having enough artistic interest in your work, satisfying clients, and paying the bills πŸ˜„

This is just too amusing/wry not to share! I had the pleasure of being tangential to this particular communique. It's nice when a sub has some actual leverage for a little bit πŸ˜„

      Dear Developer,

I can appreciate your sense of urgency on this pricing for the [product].

I need you to appreciate [my company's] urgency regarding getting paid for [previous project]. Last time we met face to face, you promised within 24hrs you would let me know when to expect payment and that the payment would come [within a week]. As far as I know we have not yet received payment. [two weeks later]

I am dropping everything right now to get you pricing for the [product]. I respectfully ask if you can do the same regarding payment [for my work on the other project] and place it in the mail today.

We really like working with you on these fun and interesting projects and look forward to many in the future!

      Best Regards,

      Product supplier & installer

If I force Aperture option to 100 (larger sizes produce more blur)

seems you have it backwards. higher aperture number = greater depth of field = less blurry.

an f16 aperture will give you a sharper image than an f2.5 aperture.

    • RE: ZDepth Opacity

Heya! I played with a test scene to figure out some parameters that might work for your scene. I realized that the aperture override in the DOF settings is locked - which is the case when you use physical camera. (If you turn off physical camera - you can set any aperture you want there) Anyway, I found that an extreme value of f0.6 gives a nice dramatic depth of field. The other option to get more extreme DOF is to scale your model down (like to 1/10th) since DOF is based on real-world values.

Where's the best place to notify that a banner ad has a broken link? I clicked on a twinmotion banner ad and it went to a 404 page 😞 They'd probably want to know πŸ’

      Hi andybot !

Thank you for you answer, without refraction the glass seems to be a little more transparent on ZDepth channel πŸ˜„ but I just realise that this technic isn't the best for my case, because now, the reflects on the glass are blurry too ahah !

Here is my render : http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/596204testOK.png
What do you think (as a pro) ?

Next step, I'll try to render the depth field directly with VRay !
      Best regards,

      swissboy

True, reflection will be blurred too. You can select the raw reflection channel in your options and add that layer in over your glass to get some sharp reflections, but most likely the simplest solution is to do the DOF in the render. πŸ˜„

The link works for me hellnbak. I suspect you are an isolated case because no one else has mentioned it. You can find the group on Facebook by a traditional search method. It's called show share learn. I take it your interested in entering he comp ? πŸ˜‰

I would take a very very wild guess that hellnbak is not on facebook. I'm assuming you have to log in to access the page that you link to. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

I do like your renderings, maybe you should post some of the other entries here as the competition winds down.

    • RE: Layer Contents

It could be that some lines are on those layers, but not any of the faces. Happens to me sometimes with a CAD import. I would just go and delete the layers and send the contents to Layer 0, then whatever group they're in will control the visibility.

    • RE: .vismat materials not showing their textures in paint bucket

you may be using some old vismat materials where the diffuse texture is not in the diffuse layer. Add the texture into the diffuse layer and it will show up in the SU materials.

    • RE: ZDepth Opacity

hey swissboy! Unfortunately, the z depth mask sometimes has issues with reflections and refractions. Can you do zdepth in your render? Maybe you can just render that one area and blend it in to your final render (use a material ID mask to select just that part)

If it still looks OK in the render, you could take out your refraction layer from your material, I believe transparency is respected with the zdepth mask. Good luck!

I hate PayPal because if you provide someone with a service, you finish that service, they can chargeback the money on their credit card with little to no explanation on their part, even if you win the dispute with the client, the credit card company will still take their money back and PayPal will then deduct that amount from your account. With no effort or concern for you, their client... Not such a big deal when it's $10-$50.00 but when it's $2000 and you spent weeks or months on a project only to have them get the service and their money back? Dispute resolution with PayPal is a joke. Whatsmore I have little recourse and no real competition for them since Google Checkout closed.

ouch! doesn't sound like a repeat client 😑

Yeah, I've read a bit about how small merchants can get really screwed accepting paypal. Any electronic pay service I've looked into thus far has too many fees and conditions that I didn't like. I'm still only taking checks. πŸ˜’
