It looks like maybe the material was added to the group and not the faces, if you explode the group and then regroup, it should render smooth.

    • RE: Just read this on the SUPlugins site

I also can't wait to check out V2, I hope there are some bells and whistles but what I would really like to see is some sort of material editor instead of adding reflections to faces and suffixs to material names, this way materials can be saved and reused in other models making it quicker and easier to set up scenes, especially with big models, so it should fit with the philosophy of Podium.

    • RE: Do you use BIM?

I do medium to large residential remodel projects, I use Cadsoft Envisioneer, have for quite a few years, since version 3, at the time I think it was $995.00 USD. Version 5 came out last year, it's now available in three different packages from $795-1795. It's has a pretty small learning curve, decent 2D drafting tools, comes with a basic builtin renderer, the biggest con is that it doesn't live update from model view to paperspace but this is suppose to be coming, the biggest learning curve and time spent was setting up the BIM catalogues for my use. I think its the perfect way for a one man show or small firm to get into BIM without breaking the bank. Here's a link, http://www.cadsoft.com/ . But I sure have been using SU alot more lately πŸ˜„

    • RE: How do you set up a decent viewpoint for a render

To me it likes like either your camera is stuck inside a wall, try to move it forward a little, or if the renderer you're using has camera controls, your zoom is set to high and you're getting a closeup of the oppisite wall.

    • Trying to match Hypershot....

I've seen alot of good car renders here and it seems the majority of them have used Hypershot. So I was curious about what kind of output I could get with Vray. What do you guys think?

Here's my Vray try, 12 mins at 1024x768. Only sunlight, coming through skylight. Some post pro, brightness/contrast adjustment, vignette, and resize.

I could be wrong but I believe, in the enviroment settings you up the size multipler, try between 8-12.

    • RE: Frustrating problem

Gaieus, thats interesting, there is a chance we could be related, I'll have to check. My father is from Hungary and all my relatives (grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, etc.) are still in Hungary or Czechoslovakia. Just my immediate family, mother, father, sister, and my kids are in the states.

Using IE, don't know which one but not the latest. Never tried another browser to see if it fixes my problem, interesting idea.

    • Frustrating problem

A few weeks ago, all of a sudden I couldn't view png files anymore, just get the red X. It's really frustrating when viewing websites or even some of the great renders here. A few searches online revealed that this is a common problem but not really a fix. Now if I set up a new user account, I can again view pngs but I hate to use an account just to surf and then have to switch back to my administrator account to do anything else. Anybody here ever have this problem and were you able to fix it? BTW I'm running Vista home preminum. TIA

    • RE: Podium Classroom

I agree with everyone, very warm image. Is there much post pro?, diffuse glow at windows maybe? I think it would be cool to have some writing on the chaulk board. I haven't downloaded 1.7.1 yet but I think I will today, patiently waiting for V2 πŸ˜„

    • RE: House project

Not a bad render but I think the color of the pencil is off a little, also the size of the pencil and cup aren't relative, either the cup needs scaled up or the pencil down. I really like these types of renders.

    • RE: "Watercoloresque"

Dale, in PS you can record what you did and then save it as an action, then next time all you have to do is play the action and it will go through all the settings you used previously. BTW a very nice image.

I really like this idea, can't believe it hasn't been suggested before. Maybe you should post your idea here, http://productideas.appspot.com/#16/e=2191e and maybe the Google team can get something into 8
