I would go like this:
Model the terrain with sand box
Model a cd, make it a component, or proxy it (I use vray)
Use Chris Fulmer's awesome: Place Component on Faces Plugin.
Set up material
Profit
Opening Sketchup with Vray active will mean longer times for it to be ready to run. Use ThomThoms Vray tools to load Vray only when you need it 
I am very skeptical about this release.. One thing that had got simpler in 2013 (plugin installation) has become a new nuisance, because the plugin folder has changed position...
Not sure what to think about it.
It has copied all my shortcuts from 2013,which is nice.. but.. there's is still something that has got me unconvinced.
(I will avoid asking for a 64 bit version, since you are not going to make one ever..)
I really don't know if this applies for Vray 2.0, but in Vray 1.49 you had to change the units from meters to centimeters in order for IES lights to work.
It happens to me too.. I will be very grateful to anyone that can give some insight on this..
Vray 1.6 has a "Wrapper Material" that should do that. But I still haven't used it yet, so I can't tell you anything more..

I was looking for this option in sketchup (similar to the "invisible to camera" in 3ds max) but did not know this was it.

The clients rarely do, here in Italy, that's why a renderer's job is so difficult..

Oh, I see. It is a bit confusing but it works, I guess. I did not know that i could put the vray material as a layer in the diffuse, going to try that.
BTW I am still wondering why different versions of vray are using different material formats. Wouldn't it be easier to use only .mat for everything?
Hi there! Not sure what the problem is, but maybe you can try putting an alpha image of the leaf in the white channel of the fresnel reflections.
Your issue made me think about the fact that I never add reflection to a trasparent bitmap...
Come molti avranno notato, Trimble ha rilasciato una nuova versione di Sketchup, che ora si chiama Sketchup 2013.
Esiste ancora la versione gratuita, che ora si chiama Sketchup Make. La versione gratuita del programma ora non è utilizzabile per uso commerciale.
Sketchup 2013 è disponibile, al momento, solo in inglese.
