Put it back on a even plan
-
Hello,
i use SU 6 Pro.
I have draw a shape in Illustrator and import this shape in SU.
At the begin the shape came " on the floor " or parallel with one axis ( X or Y or Z ).
I duplicate this shape many time,
and move and rotate in the space each different shapes,
each shape intersect with another.
At this step everything is ok.My question is :
now i would like to take each shape with these intersection line,
and put to flat in one axis for printing and cutting paper with a machine.
Actually i take each shape, and with the move and rotate tool,
i try to make the shape the most flat i can with the axis,
but it's not very precise and a little antiquated and boring !There is a most simple way to do this more easily ?
( Something like : this face must be parallel with the X plan for example )Thanks in advance for your help
-
If you rotate it 90 degrees it should be precise. When you rotate something type 90 in the VCB and hit Enter.

Hi ely862me,
thanks for your reply,
i well understand that it's possible to constraint the rotation ( 90°, 180°, ... )
or type a numerical value and press enter to apply.Maybe my explanation are not very clear, sorry.
My problem is different,
i have many plane shapes,
and i have rotate them in many differents orientations in X-Y-Z,
without precises values,
just with the goal to have some aesthetic 3D virtual object build with plane shapes.
Now for printing and cutting each shapes,
i need to put these plane shapes on the same plan ( X for example ),
for printing them on paper and rebuilt the 3D virtual object in real world.Maybe for example,
it's like the " mikado game " or some spaghettis sticks in a pot,
you have many sticks in chaos/disorder with many different orientations
( and you don't know the values of each angles of these orientations ),
and you want to put them and arrange them on the same flat plan. Thanks for your help.

I think you want something like the Flattery plugin: http://www.pumpkinpirate.info/flattery/
-
Oh, I understand now. I have done something like this in the past and I will do it again in a couple of weeks.
First thing to do is to create the shapes in only one plane and don't change the axes or don't rotate them inside the components. When you place it where you want just rotate it from outside.
You will have to install Chris Fullmer's plugin Components onto faces.
Then draw a rectangle, select that rectangle and select one of the shapes which has to be a component, then run the plugin Components onto each face. If you haven't change the initial shape axes, your shape will be aligned with the rectangle you have drawn. It is a tedious job, but it is a lot better than doing it manually.[screenr:2i6yxaqr]FOFN[/screenr:2i6yxaqr]

The forum supports screenr.com embeds using the last bit of the emdbed code....

Hey,
( i post a response but it doesn't appear,
and i don't have saw the other responses ).Thank you very much ely862me, d12dozr, DaveR,
Rich o Brien for the embedded code for the tutorial video,
thanks for your help and your time. That's exactly resolve my problem,
i appreciate really your help. Now i just have to work to up grade my knownledge of SU,
and probably upgrade my old SU 6 Pro.Thanks again, have a nice day.

I knew it supports, I have done it in the past, but it was way more difficult than now.
I will remember this next time because it is easier now.
Thanks ! -
There is also this option.

Well, that is something that would be way more faster . What is that ? I need it !

The code was posted somewhere here by sdmitch if I remember well.
I've just done a .rb file. Here it is.
Raddrizza.rb -
Excellent ! Thank you ! But can you make it to work like Box' did ?
-
Sorry, I don't have SU installed atm and I don't recall exactly how it works. Which is the difference? Maybe Box has something different?
-
Yours works only for one group/Component. And it would be nice to have them aligned and not having them stacked one over another.
-
Ah, ok. So the Box's one is something else.
-
How much is it worth to know what it is!!!
I'll have to remember where I got it from. From memory it was just a beta from Mattc, part of a full paper modelling plugin that he has never finished. It only works on groups and is a touch erratic. If I can find the thread where he posted it I will come back here.

try searching using this....

That's a nice search feature Rich, but it still needs to know what you are looking for.
I found it using the normal advanced search.
Not bad memory for a 3 year old thread.
The code is in there and he added it as an .rb in the last post of the thread.

Great ! Thanks !
Now I need to figure it out how to make it work with components ! Or changing the components to groups. -
Thanks Rich for the search feature,
the Ruby's script : " Group to XY plane " work perfectly.
I'm on SU 8 ( not SU 6 than i thinking before, oups ).
