I'm falling into the same old trap...
-
the icons that follow my cursor around sometimes get sticky.
orbit seems to do it most often.
when i spacebar back to select... i'll be stuck with orbit.
have to manually go up and hit the icon, and then things switch over.latest SU pro 2013 update, latest and greatest mac osx.

Anyone else experience crashes with "X-ray mode on" with quadros?
I got a Quadro 3800FX - no issues here. Driver version: 311.50.
Do you have issues on all models? And it doesn't crash is you disable Hardware Acceleration? What about plugins - does it crash when plugins are disabled?
It only happens like 30% of the time on a particularly heavy model, I'm running a Quadro 2000 with 311.50.
Thanks though, I think it must be this particular model.

I still find that changing tools is a pita, I have to select the new tool multiple times and am forever getting caught out when the tool STILL does not change over, then another crash because the program cannot deal with multiple tool requests.

?
Never experienced that. Does it also occur when plugins are disabled? -

Never experienced that. Does it also occur when plugins are disabled?Yes, it does at that. Corrupt install or just plain ol' pita from the random world that is sketchup (OR ANY OTHER SOFTWARE BEFORE SOMEONE MENTIONS IT).
-
You experience this in other applications as well?
Any chance you use a wireless mouse? Checked if it needs new batteries?
-
No problem with other programs, no wireless mouse, no difference with fresh installs either.

I was ecstatic with the ease of installing plug ins, new computer, new sketchup pro 2013 and then I tried to use it - Bezier tools Fredo = bug splat over and over, Extrusion tools bug splat, I haven't been able to do a serious project on it. Any advice ?
I'm on OSX 10.8.4, Sk2013

Have you reinstalled fresh versions of the tools ?
Some were specifically reworked to be compatible with v2013. Also ensure you have the latest Libs for both Fredo and Thomthom's tools.
What is your plugins folder path ?Do you also have Vray beta installed - this tool is known to cause splats when other legit tools do something that its flaky observers take exception to... They are working on a fix... meanwhile you don't need a renderer while you are modeling, so disable it until you need it...

yes, don't copy the ol' stuff from your SU8 plugin folder to SU13 but install the recent versions of the plugins either from inside SU ("Window > Extension Warehouse") resp. download the RBZ/ZIPs from here maybe by using the SketchUCation Plugin Store.
SU13 Plugin Folder OSX:
Mac HD > Users > [Username] > Library > Application Support > SketchUp 2013 > SketchUp > Plugins

Thanks for your comments - I have only installed through the inbuilt plug in whorehouse or the new sketchucation thingy which is very impressive. No old plug ins, no Vray, I've got podium and artisan and I've only downloaded the latest through these channels.

Completely off off off topic (the phrase suggests an off Broadway play with a lot of nudity) - do you just build the skateboard parks or do you skate also?

There is an awful lot of money to be made if you can developed that plugin.

It's the Bezier, I have downloaded the latest 2013 Fredo lib, however, is there a way to deinstall just to check

[quote="jason_maranto"]Alright, so hopefully I clearly established why I think this βupgradeβ fails... Lets look at what you can do about it.
First off, don't βupgradeβ β if you are free version user don't pay the $590... and if you are an existing Pro user don't pay the $95.
Jason, well thought out and said. I have been an avid user and proponent of sketchup for some time now and was also dismayed at the immediacy of their annual subscription policy. Agree also that the changes/improvements over the past several years (I have used it since SU6) would not have amounted to much without the efforts and skills of the user community in producing plugins to 'get the job done'. What's more, the 3D warehouse is what it is because of the efforts and generosity of this same community.
Should this be their intent for what is generally a loyal customer base then I would urge one and all to lobby Autodessys to get busy with a 'layout' equivalent for Bonzai 3D, which out of the box is similar in price and like Sketchup on steroids. If they were to achieve this, it would result in an enormous migration of 3d modellers to their platform. At the least it would put the pressure back on Trimble to lift their game re their customers.

Oh FFS... Thank god I've kept that older installer of SketchUp8 around... Wanting to keep everything I have on hand up-to-date, I've just recently tried to update my freeware sketchup to this new sketchup2013.. and to my surprise..
The bloody thing is now a Trial-Ware? Seriously?! A trial-ware.. I thought I followed the link to the freeware version, same as I've always done since SketchUp 6 and 7... but to my surprise, no matter how hard I've skimmed over Trimble's site looking for the freeware SU.. I dunt find any!!
Needless to say I've un-installed SU2013 and I'm reinstalling SU8, compatible with all of my older plug-ins like Fredo, and others..
I thought SketchUp was supposed to be 3D for everyone.. for the masses? How is it for the masses when it's a trial-ware that last only a week.. or I don't know... as soon as I saw SU2013 was trial-ware I uninstalled it no sooner had I launched it to see what all the fuss was about.
Correct me if I'm wrong about this, everyone, please? But I thought there ALWAYS was a freeware version of SketchUp to go hand in hand with the Pro version since the freeware was thought to be more suitable for the hobbyist and students alike, such as myself, a hobbyist..
Seriously, I think someone has made a dreadful error here removing the freeware version.
Pardon me gents, but I'm back to reinstalling SU8 and all of my plug-ins. XD
End rant.. LooksSketchy2Me
