I was ecstatic with the ease of installing plug ins, new computer, new sketchup pro 2013 and then I tried to use it - Bezier tools Fredo = bug splat over and over, Extrusion tools bug splat, I haven't been able to do a serious project on it. Any advice ?

    I'm on OSX 10.8.4, Sk2013
Have you reinstalled fresh versions of the tools ?
Some were specifically reworked to be compatible with v2013. Also ensure you have the latest Libs for both Fredo and Thomthom's tools.
What is your plugins folder path ?

Do you also have Vray beta installed - this tool is known to cause splats when other legit tools do something that its flaky observers take exception to... They are working on a fix... meanwhile you don't need a renderer while you are modeling, so disable it until you need it...

yes, don't copy the ol' stuff from your SU8 plugin folder to SU13 but install the recent versions of the plugins either from inside SU ("Window > Extension Warehouse") resp. download the RBZ/ZIPs from here maybe by using the SketchUCation Plugin Store.

      SU13 Plugin Folder OSX:

      Mac HD > Users > [Username] > Library > Application Support > SketchUp 2013 > SketchUp > Plugins

Thanks for your comments - I have only installed through the inbuilt plug in whorehouse or the new sketchucation thingy which is very impressive. No old plug ins, no Vray, I've got podium and artisan and I've only downloaded the latest through these channels.

here's some time lapse footage of the stuff i posted on page9 being built..

Completely off off off topic (the phrase suggests an off Broadway play with a lot of nudity) - do you just build the skateboard parks or do you skate also?

There is an awful lot of money to be made if you can developed that plugin.

[quote="jason_maranto"]Alright, so hopefully I clearly established why I think this โ€œupgradeโ€ fails... Lets look at what you can do about it.

First off, don't โ€œupgradeโ€ โ€“ if you are free version user don't pay the $590... and if you are an existing Pro user don't pay the $95.

Jason, well thought out and said. I have been an avid user and proponent of sketchup for some time now and was also dismayed at the immediacy of their annual subscription policy. Agree also that the changes/improvements over the past several years (I have used it since SU6) would not have amounted to much without the efforts and skills of the user community in producing plugins to 'get the job done'. What's more, the 3D warehouse is what it is because of the efforts and generosity of this same community.

Should this be their intent for what is generally a loyal customer base then I would urge one and all to lobby Autodessys to get busy with a 'layout' equivalent for Bonzai 3D, which out of the box is similar in price and like Sketchup on steroids. If they were to achieve this, it would result in an enormous migration of 3d modellers to their platform. At the least it would put the pressure back on Trimble to lift their game re their customers.

Oh FFS... Thank god I've kept that older installer of SketchUp8 around... Wanting to keep everything I have on hand up-to-date, I've just recently tried to update my freeware sketchup to this new sketchup2013.. and to my surprise..

The bloody thing is now a Trial-Ware? ๐Ÿ˜  Seriously?! A trial-ware.. I thought I followed the link to the freeware version, same as I've always done since SketchUp 6 and 7... but to my surprise, no matter how hard I've skimmed over Trimble's site looking for the freeware SU.. I dunt find any!! โ“

Needless to say I've un-installed SU2013 and I'm reinstalling SU8, compatible with all of my older plug-ins like Fredo, and others..

I thought SketchUp was supposed to be 3D for everyone.. for the masses? How is it for the masses when it's a trial-ware that last only a week.. or I don't know... as soon as I saw SU2013 was trial-ware I uninstalled it no sooner had I launched it to see what all the fuss was about.

Correct me if I'm wrong about this, everyone, please? But I thought there ALWAYS was a freeware version of SketchUp to go hand in hand with the Pro version since the freeware was thought to be more suitable for the hobbyist and students alike, such as myself, a hobbyist..

Seriously, I think someone has made a dreadful error here removing the freeware version.

Pardon me gents, but I'm back to reinstalling SU8 and all of my plug-ins. XD

                      End rant.. LooksSketchy2Me

The v2013 'pro-trial' expires and becomes the free version [aka 'make'], it's little different from the v8 but now you don't need to uninstall the expired pro and install free the reversion i automatic... [but there ARE some notable licensing differences...]

Many v8 plugins will continue to work OK in v2012.
Those that were found to need some tweaking have been upgraded.
Suitable versions of most available plugins are available from the SCF PluginStore for download and installation into v2013 [or v8!]
It's recommended that you install the latest versions of all plugins, especially when changing to a new version of any app...

Oh I see now. ^ ^ Perhaps I've spoken a bit too soon then. Very well I shall reinstall the newer SU2013 and give it a go, but for sanity sake and the sake of keeping an option open, I shall keep the older SU8 in a different directory for easy access and use. =D

I cannot seem to change the FOV from deg to mm in the osx 2013 version. Is anyone else having this problem ? I prefer working in mm rather than degrees. I can write mm in the window but after hitting return it defaults to degrees. Is there a workaround for this ? Many thanks in advance.

That's the default anyway. New major SketchUp version always install independently from previous versions and run side by side.

I've not seen this. typing "mm" or "deg" changes it permanently for me. Maybe a plugin interfering?
Or ... do you enter decimals? Maybe there's a conflict of comma vs period on your system?

What is the correct method that is working for you ? is it mm. & return ? Thanks for the answer Thom.

I activate the Zoom tool and type something like either "22mm" or "40deg" and then press Return. Always worked and I've had no experience in a change between SU8 and SU2013.

The only non extensions warehouse plugins i am using are round corner and the latest maxwell build. Another bitch is the tiny addition & minus icons using the selection shift & alt tool !

I upgraded to SU 2013 yesterday, and at least for the moment, I am going to call it a Huge MISTAKE !. (sure wish I had visited this thread before upgrading) I Just completed my first model with SU 2013, (probably have 12 - 14 hours time invested in it) I exported a .dae colada file, as I normally did in SU 8, so I can render the model in Lumion 3, only to find out that a collada file exported from SU 2013 causes lumion to immediately crash! WTF Trimble? This is not just frustrating, it is infuriating, and entirely unacceptable, when you have a PAYING client waiting for finished renditions, in order to secure the sale of a $60,000.00 project. And of course, I cannot load the SU 2013 model back into SU 8, I will have to completely rebuild the model in SU 8, so I can render in Lumion, and HOPE & PRAY that in the interim, a competitor does not secure the project first... I Could lose my MAIN source of income over this. (Ok I am through venting now, well actually not, I have a list in my head of all the other Gripes I have about the functionality of SU 2013, compared to SU 8, but the above described problem is my current BIGGIE, and may have just lost me thousands of $$$$$$ of future work)
Has anyone else had problems with collada files exported from SU 2013, that won't open, and or crashes of other applications?...
                                        Any known work arounds ?
Am I doing something wrong ?
                                        I use windows 7 pro 64 bit
SU 2013 pro (just ungraded from SU 8 pro)
and I render in Lumion 3.1.1
Never had a problem doing this with SU 8, or with collada files exported from it.
I even tried opening the collada file in the old lumion free version, and also got an immediate crash! I have been using lumion since the first week of initial release, and this is the first problem I have ever had with it, I can only attribute this problem to SU 2013!

                                        Corey

I had the same problem. Very infuriating. I discovered it was something I downloaded from SU Library. A kitchen sink. Very detailed models cause Lumion to crash. I erased the sink from the model and Lumion worked. When things are going right you feel you are master of the universe and pat yourself on the back for being so clever (well I do) but when something goes wrong with your software it's like life has suddenly no meaning.... you shout at your wife and kids and kick the dog. When you discover the problem and overcome it.... your back on top of the world.... and then try to explain your woes to your wife.... but, too late... your in the dog house.
