SketchUp 2013 ;)
-
This is a huge and unexpected release!
The new version was announced for this autumn!
Anyway, I am so glad and I'm gonna test it tomorrow, hope the free version will have
line weight, if not, maybe next time. -
I have just had a quick play around with 2013, apart from the icons ( which are less visible than before for some reason) could anyone please tell me if anything has improved. It seems very much the same except for the extension warehouse which we already have here
thanks
Dan

I downloaded it but it is a .dmg not a .exe????
There was no choice offered for Win or Mac, Maker or Pro -
i think that's the main bulk - there are other minor improvements/fixes but nothing really major. feels a bit more stable with some of my biggest models. layout also feels a lot more solid and faster... it's also a move to provide a different layout and hopefully set the stage for further new developments - i'm missing some of those old days sketchup surprises (still remember when they came up with a follow me tool hidden in the tools menu!) ...right now most of the changes that at least i'd like to see are in the wish list...

warning
Custom Toolbars ruby by **Jim**will not load the existing
neither the SketchUp fullscreen ruby from Anton_S will work properly ,
As far as I have investigated .
I keep saving files in SKETCHUP 8 version just in case -
yes, hopefully Anton can fix it for this version - also, Aerilius toolbar editor, works better in 2013 than in SU8. opening is somewhat slow but the toolbars keep their positions

It's time to have a look at the new SketchUp website
hmm.. that site is kinda bad for mobile viewing.. I'll check it out later via computer
-
So it's the new version of Sketchup ?
Does this one erase the previous installed ? -
Pilou it destroys any v.6 in the vicinity!
-
No, Pilou. You can keep your version 6 if you want.
I mean what Peter said.

I'm kinda disappointed, I don't see much diference except change of icons maybe someone can start showing some improvements. Maybe a list or hidden finds of improvements.

Ditto. I notice that the Mac version still uses Ruby 1.8.5, which isn't even the version installed standard on OS X. Other than the bump in license terms (no commercial use of any sort for the free version) and price ($590 for pro), the only visible change seems to be the extensions warehouse.
All you excited beta testers, can you now spill the beans and tell us what we should be excited about?

What's coming next

textures don't drop out when orbiting larger models
**[edit]**oh wait.. now my textures are completely gone.. i broke something
not completely sure about my earlier comment either.. i;ll report back later
[/edit][edit2] yeah.. i think i just had too many big models opened between the two apps all at once..
when i try a single model in a single app for comparison, they seem to function the same -

Their extension manager is a bit confusing. I like the SketchuCation one better.
Where is the save toolbar position?
And still with the tiny "Extra Large Thumbnails"?
FYI Trimble... The word is supposed to be an analogy, not a description of the actual size. Take a page from Microsoft. When they say "Extra Large Thumbnails" they mean it.
I could have sworn I saw a multi-view in the presentation.
Looking for my reason to upgrade? beside the fact of keeping the license current for the next upgrade. $95.00 is better than $590.00 any day.
Seems fast and stable.

It's good that it's arrived but i see nothing for me in the list of improvements. I'm hoping this thread will provide some information on performance improvements. Otherwise meh i don't use layout and the sketchucation plugin is fine for handling ruby scripts.

Sounds like "Zoom In More" is the thing for me... cannot remember how often I have been frustrated with the broken zoom. But if trimble will now release a new version yearly (as paid upgrade), maybe I'll wait the next one that actually offers more than some bug fixes. Sure, LayOut did get a proper update (or so it sounds), but I never use it... and with sketchucation plugin store, I hardly find Extension Warehouse interesting.

Darn... sounds like one is actually forced on $95* per year "upgrade, maintenance, and support program". If I understand right one cannot get SU with a upgrade price, if it happens to fall out of the program. http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000020

...To continually get the annual SketchUp Pro upgrades, maintenance, and support, year after year, you will need to renew the program again for $95* per year. Don't worry, we'll let you know when you're nearing the end of your program so that you have time to renew if you choose to do so.
So one just have to trust that SU will eventually get better (sorry I don't see a track record on this) or perhaps jump on a alternative program.
