The default "Make Unique texture" in SketchUp serves for
*** making a texture on a face independent from all other materials/faces

    • cropping a texture to the face
    • baking any UV distortion into the image file; thus the resulting texture pins are arranged in a rectangle (especially for exporters that don't support distortion)**This Plugin resolves several of the built-in tool's limits. It uses a higher quality algorithm (bicubic), crops to the best fitting bounding box and allows batch processing of more then one face.

Crop texture to selection: creates one new texture that best fits to all selected faces. Note: here the UV distortion can not be baked into the image (otherwise it would require unwrapping).
Make selected face(s) unique: creates for each selected face its own unique texture with best-fitting bounding box and bakes the uv distortion into it.

Edit: Most of this has been merged into Texture Resizer with lots of more features.

    Download:

    • Windows (requires ImageMagick)Unzip and place "ae_MakeUnique++.rb" and the folder "ae_MakeUnique++" into the SketchUp\Plugins folder. If you don't have ImageMagick installed, you can download it from the official site or from here ImageMagick.zip. Place the folder "ImageMagick" into the SketchUp\Plugins folder or a location of your choice.

    Version: 1.0

    Date: 21.11.2011

    Usage:
Select faces with the same texture,
Plugins > 'Make Unique Texture ++' > 'Make selected face(s) unique'
Plugins > 'Make Unique Texture ++' > 'Crop texture to selection'

          Looks great,

What's the game plan for those with 'ImageMagick' installed on their mac.

[OK, maybe I am the only one at the moment, but...]

I assume it's more than sips can bear.

What if you don't have Imagemagick installed on your Mac?

The Mac port installs automatically, and by the look of it, somewhere other than where this plugin expects it...

I could ONLY get it to work by completely removing all traces of MacPorts, which had also screwed up my 'system ruby path'.

I then installed Homebrew, in the correct path, usr/local/bin and then
              brew install magicks [check first...]
              in Terminal...
more details dotted in this thread.

However, if you type which convert into 'Terminal.app' it should return a path [if your MacPort worked] and that can be added in the ruby manually or by navigating from the Path to IM dialog [just ignore the file tag]

It is working here on OSX 10.5.8

                  It is confusing...

You needApple Developer Tools, if you have them or are happy to install them read on.

Having tried lots of installs of this type, the easiest route IMO is via Homebrew http://mxcl.github.com/homebrew/

Click on 'Install Homebrew Today' it takes you to a 'Read Me', read the guidance there. They explain it well, follow their advice.

once you have it installed, adding other stuff become easier,
                  but not plug and play.

                    its a great tool!
but does not work with big size textures 😞
                    maybe its because of imagemagic?

                      Hi guys
I don,t know if there are a lot of mac user using Make Unique Texture++ I think it is a great tool for hanling textures in sketchup. By the way lot of tks to Aerilius Sad that he is not a mac user, because it is a little complicated to make it run. I follow the tips of driven thanks also to you. The tool works on flat faces as espected but on curved faces i do not get the results like you did in your examples(pipes) above.
If someone is intrested in my experience with the mac implementation I will add tips and Screenshots
                      Michael

I can't remember how I did it either...
When I finally got this all running, I was also playing with TT's quad face tools and Fredo's bender from Scale Tools.

No matter how good I got it to look in SU, tubes still appeared 'torn' when rendered. Using Make Unique Texture ++ after them fixed the issue, but I didn't make any notes for recreating the steps needed.

If you write up your process it may encourage myself and others to do the same...

I was thinking I was the only 'mac' user so there was little point writing it up...

glad you got it working, do you also use Texture Resizer? I find it really useful.

It'd hard to offer any help unless you are more descriptive to what doesn't work. If you can elaborate on what is happening and you expected to happen that would help. Also, include any error message you might see.

                                        Greetings,

It simply does not work at all. Nothing's been changed.
I have tried to make a several faces texture unique as on the picture.
The only way is to make each piece/surface texture unique.

I would appreciate any suggestion how to create one cropped texture (unique)as we see on the example.

                                        Thank you in advance.
