Exporting SU Shadow / Sun Settings into thea
-
What version of SU2Thea are you using?
-
Thea 1.1.
And when I say "using it". . .let's say I have it. I dont know how to use it yet
-
That's the renderer version, Pete asked about the exporter version.
I see however that Tomasz already answered (and disappointed) you in the Thea forums.
-
See! that's how much I DON't Know about this stuff. Where would I look to see the "render version"?
Yeah. . .tomasz was great. He didn't disappoint. At least it's a solution. I was just wondering if maybe Pete had some additional ideas or tricks.
Thx,
D

Well, you must have downloaded the exporter. The exe file says what the version number is (currently the latest is 0.89 I think).
And of course, I meant the "disappointment" in a way that what you hoped to do is not currently possible.
-
Oh I know. All you guys are great, and I really appreciate the help.
Anyway, Does SU and or Google provide the solar angle and Azimuth stuff that THEA uses? can i get that from the Google Locations that I put in the Model?

If you know the location (latitude & longitude from GE/maps), date and time - that should be enough for Thea for correct Sun & Sky. The solar angle and Azimuth are just alternative way.
-
****oh duh!****Yeah .. right under the Solar Azimuth tab crap . . .there's the location Tab Menu. okay. . . I'm slapping my head here!
Ouch. . .

Glad I could help...
-
Hey. . .I can do this!
Still a lot to learn tho'.
Thx to all.
David. . .
p.s. Should I surrender my green sketchucator badge?
he's tearing off the sketchucator epaulets

No, it goes with the brown shoes and tuxedo. Anyway, there's no such thing as a stupid question.
What I want to know is how do I reset the location in Thea. I installed mine in Boulder last year while giddy with excitement. It's now permanently set to Boulder. Not a big deal but I've failed to reset since. I know I'm missing something obvious.
-
interesting. . .
and here's another one. . .Pete? Tomasz?
if I set my location in the Location/time tab. ..can I attach THAT or lock that setting to a particular imported scene?
Thx,
D
EDIT: So I am playing with the location/time tabs --adjusting date and time and such, but no change in sun position. . . what am I missing here?
-
Have the sun selected when you make the changes maybe? Then also hit enter after you change the property? Mine seems to be working.

Seem to...
Sure it works...
And just like you said, you need to hit enter once you've changed the setting... -
I have posted a 'tutorial' with a sample on Thea forum.
-
Don't forget scripting. Pretty much everything in Thea can be modified by it. Some merge related example http://www.thearender.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=111&t=6446&start=0
-
thanks you guys. I will try all of these methods. I am sure most of this is just my lack of experience with the program. I think scripting might be a little out of my airspace right now, but I will go thru the tut. You guys are great.
Thx,
D
