Render this: Fountain
-
Another slightly more dramatic try. Also a couple from a previous render.
All vray for Max. A good bit of PP on the first one using photoshop and Toy camera. 2nd set is Raw output using HDRI + Vray sun.
-
That Audi render looks very good.

Some one asked me why I post models made in blender here. But these have modeled just for this purpose. If I want to render them in blender (I did) then can use a higher level of faces-details.
So this fountain is not modeled in SU (see topology on att.), so importing it to MAX and render with vray, has really nothing to do with SU. Its an interesting work flow though. Always the capability to export SU models to other apps. If this is possible (for a complicated model).
So earthmother, these are great renders, but why do you need to import a model in SU and export it in MAX?

I did not create the fountain. I downloaded the posted .skp and used the component stringer plugin that Chris just made to model the fountain spray. The idea behind the thread is to use your favorite render app to render the posted model. For me this is Vray and I happen to have it for 3ds Max. I bought Max before I even knew sketchup existed. Now that I model in SU almost exclusively, I typically just use max for rendering and scene staging, utilizing it's high poly support to render my SU models. No different than someone exporting out of sketchup into Vue or Maxwell studio. So to answer your question, my workflow is not Max to SU to Max, as this would be quite silly. 90% of what I model starts in SU....I'm not sure what program the fountain was modeled in.

Hey Adam,
Are you using Modo much these days? Just curious cause I'm still thinking about getting a second modeler. Great renders as always by the way.
Thanks,
Jeff

Another shot with a different HDRI and a little spot-light on ivy.

Thanks Oli! I think one of the biggest advantages of rendering in Max is that you can use an HDRI and display it in the background of the viewport. You can then move the Vray sun into position so that it is comparable to the HDRI light source. In the Audi render, the HDRI showed a light source that was casting a shadow on the adjacent buildings, so in Max I was able to draw a big box behind my camera and drop the sun just slightly above it. This effect of shadow casting based on the HDRI, is what I think added a lot to the realism of the image. It would be nice if the Twilight guys figure out how to do this inside of the SU.@click draw said:

Hey Jeff. Thanks! I haven't used it much of late. Played with some sculpting the other day, but nothing serious. Honestly I'm at the point where I think I need to rewatch the tutorials as I forget half the stuff I learned previously, and I haven't had the energy to relearn lately.

Some mosaics

...a fountain? ...a few renders? ...sounds fun so here it is something a little different

Thanks Oli. The jet is not a clipmap. I made the water effect mixing three different models: one for the jet, one for the rings and one for the "boiling water" in the middle. The models are in obj format and I've composed the scene in Kerkythea so i can't post a SU view, sorry. You can find the water models I used here.

let there be water:
modo render, just started learning modo
only pp was curves+photofilter -
All these are fantastic renders. So this contest lol, is interesting. Here's some more models in .3ds format like this fountain.
