Did you install it with administrator rights?

I did indeed. I am the administrator and only user of this machine.
-
i think gaieus meant as in right click->run as administrator.
If that doesnt work, you could try re-downloading the installer. Something might have gone awry during the download.

Yes, I thinkI did.
Note that I'm not a Vista user so have no experience, can only echo what I read here and there.

I also right-clicked and "ran as administrator," with the same result. I then uninstalled and reinstalled - twice, to make certain. Same result. After this, I removed Sketchup from my computer and re-downloaded the program, then re-installed and "ran as administrator."
Same result:Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

Thanks!

I'mmoving it to the SU Bug reports now. Even if there's an obvious solution (hm we should know it then I guess), the SU Team regularly checks there.

Wow, good luck on that. I've never heard of such a crash. I would imagine the Google support will stop by.

I would suggest you to see first Google's SketchUp help... And, is your Windows Vista original or is it a mod like W.Vista Lite? Maybe that's the problem.
Hope this helps

Verikon,
Welcome to my club for Vista users that have this strange but quite rare problem (it doesnt effect everybody that runs Vista). For me, running as administrator made no difference. This method worked for me: Install SU but don't try to open it by clicking on the SU icon, this is what seems to cause the crash. Go to C:/program files / google/ SU. Find the SU boot icon in that directory but don't click on it (that won't work either). Instead drag an existing SU file over the top of the Su boot icon. SU opens fine, no error messages.
Google if your listening, SORT THIS OUT PLEASE!

Well, as Andrew said, the Google SU Team is after your problem. Even "new" members of them have registered here to look into it, you can't expect more at the moment. I'm pretty sure they will let us (you) know if they find a solution, no need to start a new topic with the same issue.
(I'm merging the two topics...)

I wanted to advise I am also having the same problem.
My OS is: Microsoft Windows VistaT Home Premium - Win 32_ Operating System, Win 32_Computer System, CSDVersion Service Pack 1

Could this be the issue? If so, we may need a resolution at the registry level to remove all evidence of Sketchup Pro 7.
-
Installing SU Pro first shouldn't have any affect on errors like this. In fact, you shouldn't even have uninstalled it first but even that shouldn't be a problem.
I can imagine that software developers do not like to remove all evidence of a program that has ever been installed otherwise you could simply re-install the pro versions after each other thus gaining back the full functioning trial version every time you reinstall it.
This error message is indeed a problem however has nothing to do with the pro vs free versions and installing them on top of each other.

Is sketchup 7 strict about 32bit or 64bit operating systems? I think some applications does not run on 64bit OS on windows vista. So, some applications are made to run on 64bit OS.

I'm not sure if that was a typo, or what you reamlly meant to say....
I run SU on Vista 64 with absolutely no issues. Thom and Remus and others are running in on Windows7 64bit and have posted elsewhere that it is works great on their systems.

hehe32bit applications will run on 64bit OS. However, 32bit drivers will not install, so any applciation that rely on 32bit drivers only will not function.
SU have no problems on 64bit systems. -

That was my head going too fast for my fingers. I corrected the post.
