Cool features of SU7
-
With all the bleating, b*tching and moaning about what was NOT updated or included in SU7 I thought I would start a postive thread on SU7.
Have you put a new feature of SU7 to good use? Found something surprising buried in the menus somewhere? Tell us here. Did something with Dynamic Components, let us know what is possible.
PS. Don't complain about SU7 or post comments along the lines "So what we could do that with 57 steps and 25 scripts in SU6" do that in the other thread.
-
My first is that you can now set a location in the free version of SU.
-
My second is that you can claim credit for the model.
-
Well done Hazza, we need a break from all the negitive stuff.
Anyway, I'm wondering who Sang is? And what happened to Bryce?
-
The SU viewer is a pretty cool 'feature' i reckon. Not particularly new, but nice to have it updated.

I am liking the DC's. They are a good amount of spreadsheet like mathematical functions and not too much programming to make them useable. Once I found the documentation I dug right in and it only took a few hours before I felt like I had the hang of it. I posted my first model here:
Please check it out. It is pretty cool. Its a building that as you scale it, it makes more buildings, instead of just stretching the one building. Then each subsequent building has built in appearance and size options you can edit. Its all explained in the link I posted above, but I would love some feedback on it (probably in the post I listed above, not here).
So while I am not convinced I need DC's, I am excited about them. They are quite powerful,
Chris

The best for me is break edges. For what seems such a minor change saves a lot of time as I didn't realise how often I traced over edges to break them until using the new version.
-
It looks like un-docked toolbars remember where they were. That's new, isn't it?
-
MUCH faster still animation exports
-
The editing of texture images with external photo editors is awesome IMO.

Hi Mike -
Sang is a member of the SketchUp Dev Team. He's been with us for about 3 years now.
We figured Bryce has take enough abuse (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/cldetails?mid=81eb1af9d5a907aa3c9fe3a963c6d73b&prevstart=0).
Now it is Sang's turn (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=2faedcf7cd0ef7dd44b2fa2cac0778f5&prevstart=0)

Google -
There's also a Combine Textures feature which is excellent.
-
the new snaps work much better

I think the DCs are going to be tremendous when people actually figure out the power locked inside there. I'm sure it will be possible for Google to add extra functions and generally streamline the process if requested. Some of this occurred during their development. Who knows, we might even see something like Fat Faces yet. What were they other than parametric walls?
The linked editing of texture images is also surprisingly powerful. Do it properly and you can see any image tweaks reflected almost in real-time in your model....excellent for the fine placement of complicated textures.

Googleor this unique solution, which brings them together!
-
My third little find is only a small tweak but makes the visual clues much easier to read.
The new "end point" and "on the line/intersection" indicators, you know the big green circle and the red cross thingy. They are bigger and clearer, love em.
-
I am pleased that I can now navigate (orbit, zoom, etc.) within a fairly complex model, and I don't get stuck in objects, and the navigating is faster and smoother.
-
The VCB is now called Measurements. You'll find it on the View menu with all the other toolbars. If selected, you can now move it anywhere you like so it doesn't keep getting masked by any extended browsers on the right.

GoogleAnd just to make it easy for him you made him Interactive? hehe Wonder how many times Sang has been poked already. Is he ticklish? ...(hmm... think I just had an idea to make the Sang model more interactive....)

Hazza, i think the endpoint/intersections thing was in SU 6 as well.
Image exports are much improved, 9999 here i come!
