Ask away mate, bottom line is as much as I am a big fan or urban greening in general for so many ecological reasons. I think in practice they are a nightmare on so many levels, Having a lot of experience i this field as a systems designer I do not thing the are practical. and one hole in that waterproof membrane either vertically as in green walls or horizontally as in green roofs Green roofs being the lesser evil of the two.
In reality we all know as normal building age buildings age things go wrong and damp is a big problem

I do not believe the hype any more. Look up french green wall designer Patrick Blanc I believe he is the leader in this field

(by the way, do these smiley emojis here only look so silly only to me or to everyone?)

The cost of this would be about (In Australian Dollars)
            Installation: $1,000 – $2,500 per mΒ²

            At ~5 stories, say the wall is 15 m wide x 20 m high = 300 mΒ²

            That’s $300,000 – $750,000 AUD installation cost.

Ongoing maintenance: $100 – $200 per mΒ² per year

Around $30,000 – $60,000 AUD annually for upkeep.

Lighting & irrigation system: included in the above, but can add $50k – $100k upfront depending on complexity.

Wow !!! I recognize the picture without knowing who created it.
And what a great piece of work by himβ€”not just green for its own green sake, but truly artistic.

Agreed, my one problem would be complaints and potential suits from folk who have their windows obscured from daylight. Perhaps cut down on the foliage quantity a bit.

I can definitely see that this sort of thing is NEEDED, for water recycling purposes if nothing else. I saw a project in Manhattan where the planting from top to bottom of a tower block was used to reclaim brown water produced by residents. Lots of room for projects like this to manage hotter climates without massive energy drain.
We can do this if the will (Power) is there.

                        Hi
Somehow, this topic (related to SketchUp, of course) also seems to fit here for me and at least, I hope so β€” so I'll take a look at it tonight.

This topic has reminded me of a series of programs about what would happen if humans vanished overnight and on into the future. How things would deteriorate over time.
The USS Texas and other battleship museums, the high rise buildings around the world.
What would happen to these structures without maintenance over protracted periods.
Quite an eye opener. Not trying to put a dampener on the topic btw, just pointing out in the earlier post that folk like their windows to let light in an I love the whole idea but a little restraint might be more realistic.
