I have great feeling about it! Thank you for sharing!

that looks great. How could I missed that thread?

Yeh, nice work mate
Of interest to me as I spent one year of my life designing green wall systems

Hi!
Thank you all for your nice comments, and I am glad you enjoyed this.
I am adding a small picture impression of the production process. In addition, I also wrote a small sloppy and imperfect ruby (rb) plugin that allows selected components to βfloatβ within a self-defined range at random Z heights. Similar to a deck of cards thrown on the floor. To prevent the PNGs (the cards) from interfering with each other, each PNG must have its own determined random height in cases where these cold be coplanar with any other to avoid any coplanar glitching issues...

Again nice work mate. I love the idea of green walls and your systems seem to a watering system with climbing plants which is s good option. I have a good knowledge of green wall systems. the downside (not particularity your type of system. But other systems are incredibly expensive to make and to maintain. And often the interior green wall systems use interior grow lamps.....hardly environmentally friendly and ironic The other thing is if they fail the can fail catastrophically. This is just a conversation about green walls in general and not a comment on your work. If a company wants a green wall system, as much as I like them I would say if you have the money to have 2 Horticulturalist/ gardener/ technician, and a high rise rigging certification and you can afford about 60 man hours a week every week then go ahead

Thank you L i am for your input on this topic!
As you can imagine, I'm not exactly an expert on this subject myself although I now attend seminars on the subject.
I was simply trying to find a practical way to present this particular system based on SkUp somehow.
In fact, I am now aware and also realize that the system shown here is very limited due to its nature - in terms of the planting method and the associated greening/shading ratio and, ultimately, also in terms of statics.
Since I am of course very interested in the topic, I welcome your and everyone else's input on the green wall topic here. Both in terms of real systems and experiences, as well as your implementation approaches within SkUp.
Best!

Ask away mate, bottom line is as much as I am a big fan or urban greening in general for so many ecological reasons. I think in practice they are a nightmare on so many levels, Having a lot of experience i this field as a systems designer I do not thing the are practical. and one hole in that waterproof membrane either vertically as in green walls or horizontally as in green roofs Green roofs being the lesser evil of the two.
In reality we all know as normal building age buildings age things go wrong and damp is a big problemI do not believe the hype any more. Look up french green wall designer Patrick Blanc I believe he is the leader in this field

I love your funny and true saying "the lesser evil of the two" !
(by the way, do these smiley emojis here only look so silly only to me or to everyone?)

This is one work by Patrick -
The cost of this would be about (In Australian Dollars)
Installation: $1,000 β $2,500 per mΒ²At ~5 stories, say the wall is 15 m wide x 20 m high = 300 mΒ²
Thatβs $300,000 β $750,000 AUD installation cost.
Ongoing maintenance: $100 β $200 per mΒ² per year
Around $30,000 β $60,000 AUD annually for upkeep.
Lighting & irrigation system: included in the above, but can add $50k β $100k upfront depending on complexity.

This is one work by PatrickWow !!! I recognize the picture without knowing who created it.
And what a great piece of work by himβnot just green for its own green sake, but truly artistic. -
Agreed beautiful study of how nature colonises species
-
Agreed, my one problem would be complaints and potential suits from folk who have their windows obscured from daylight. Perhaps cut down on the foliage quantity a bit.
-
Like I said mate it is so expensive to build and maintain
-
I can definitely see that this sort of thing is NEEDED, for water recycling purposes if nothing else. I saw a project in Manhattan where the planting from top to bottom of a tower block was used to reclaim brown water produced by residents. Lots of room for projects like this to manage hotter climates without massive energy drain.
We can do this if the will (Power) is there. -
Hi
Somehow, this topic (related to SketchUp, of course) also seems to fit here for me and at least, I hope so β so I'll take a look at it tonight.

This topic has reminded me of a series of programs about what would happen if humans vanished overnight and on into the future. How things would deteriorate over time.
The USS Texas and other battleship museums, the high rise buildings around the world.
What would happen to these structures without maintenance over protracted periods.
Quite an eye opener. Not trying to put a dampener on the topic btw, just pointing out in the earlier post that folk like their windows to let light in an I love the whole idea but a little restraint might be more realistic.
