I can definitely see that this sort of thing is NEEDED, for water recycling purposes if nothing else. I saw a project in Manhattan where the planting from top to bottom of a tower block was used to reclaim brown water produced by residents. Lots of room for projects like this to manage hotter climates without massive energy drain.
We can do this if the will (Power) is there.

This topic has reminded me of a series of programs about what would happen if humans vanished overnight and on into the future. How things would deteriorate over time.
The USS Texas and other battleship museums, the high rise buildings around the world.
What would happen to these structures without maintenance over protracted periods.
Quite an eye opener. Not trying to put a dampener on the topic btw, just pointing out in the earlier post that folk like their windows to let light in an I love the whole idea but a little restraint might be more realistic.

Mike Amos, I think I saw that very same television report, and it was full of so impressive images!

No, I understand exactly what you're saying, and you're not "dampening" (does this word exist in English?) the topic at all. A specialist seminar at the beginning of this year, which I assumed would put this topic on a holy throne, dealt with it in a very critical and reflective manner.
I myself also doubt that greening facades is the key to a better urban climate and consider it more of a niche solution that is only appropriate in certain places.
I live in Frankfurt and have observed the efforts being made there to remove sealing materials from large squares and even streets and replace them with green spaces and tree plantings. Even then, I often thought beforehand, ‘What's this going to be like?’ but it actually got better. All in all, I think that a lot of trial and error is going on at the moment – which is better than not trying anything at all. Even if something goes wrong, you have gained knowledge and experience.

I am very pleased about all these contributions and comments – especially since this topic started with an amateurish attempt to model and visualise a green wall system in SketchUp

Foliage like this will reduce the temperature of the homes it is attached to so that alone makes it worthwhile.. Any water savings from recycling brown water will be a bonus.
