      This is pretty wild but not unexpected. Dense point cloud to optimized quad or tri meshes

      It won't be long before you'll be generating optimized, UV mapped models of any object using your phone leaving you purely in the artistic design/rendering phase.

        It's very cool, but I'm still very uneasy about it... Are we the last of the horse buggy makers?

          It's gonna be illustration of the 80/20 law. The last 20% of the job would take 80% ot the time. It won't be ready even in 15 years.

            For me. it's the same as people saying printers would replace pen and paper. I see it as an extra utility rather replacement of existing talents.

            It will lead to job loss but there will always be a place for a 3D designers/artists to exercise their natural talent.

              @Rich-O-Brien If it's what I think it is it would require a scan of an existing object. Perhaps it will have a remesh capability? That would be a handy tool. As someone mentioned in the comments at the Youtube video it would be mean scanning a sculpture to create an animation character. That would be adding a laborious step.

              So any new designs would still require what's now traditional computer modeling methods. Plus I know for myself I enjoy creating a model of an existing object. I think if I just plopped in a 3d scan of a locomotive and then put it through this Megatron program that would be like cheating or tracing for an illustration.

              I know I can do a lot better modeling than the examples of the guitar and chair they provide.

                @Gus-R

                I see this as a huge speed boost in gaming dev and cg asset creation first. But it really depends on how nVidia roll it out or if other tech usurps it. But AAA gaming and movie studios scan so heavily now that the rework after point cloud to mesh must be substantial.

                If you take a market like Megascans that is out there real world scanning and then generating various LODs and merging textures images to UV maps for more performant assets. This would be a massive time saver.

                I don't see this currently as a threat, particular in ArchViz, but it is interesting to see.

                Not as interesting as those drones over New Jersey....what are those???

                  @Rich-O-Brien The drones? Let's just say I'll wait for a rational explanation. One that I have not seen so far.

                      The drone thing has me perplexedπŸ‘Ž If they were little drones I would say it was people having fun. But that is not the case, Something is fishy here. They have also been seen over US basses in the UK

                        It's not just muppets and paramilitary now. Drones and delivery have been doing the rounds at a prison near everybody for years.

                        Weed delivery?

                        All very well to tell a 'foreign power' that you will shoot them down but another to achieve it without civilian casualties.

                        It does make a bit of sense for general deliveries because the current biped format has a serious issue with doors that do not open themselves. Much head scratching and yelling and that's the delivery muppets (From outer space).
