V-Ray 3.0
-
Hi,
Can someone tell me if there are any news about V-Ray 3.0 for SketchUp, when can we expect that release? And what improvements is it going to have? Also, if you have some info about development and release of other render software, I would like to hear about it. I need to invest some money into it, but I don't want to regret it in 2-3 months.
Thank you all! -
At the London Basecamp in september I saw a presentation of a pre alpha of Vray 3.
Here are a couple of images.

If you don't want to wait for that you could always try Thea.
You won't be disappointed... -
Thanks Pixero,
Pre alpha definitely sounds better than beta And I'll definitely check out Thea, I saw a lot of positive comments about it, so I suppose it's worth a try. -
Alpha comes before Beta and Pre Alpha is even before that so it'll probably be a while yet...
-
what? noooo
-
Thea's better than Vray anyway so why wait?
-
yeah, vray for sketchup seems to be getting left waaay behind. I still like vray better than Thea, but I have the pleasure of also using vray for Blender (that is on 3.0)
-
My only problem now is that my material library is full of vray materials. If I have to re-make it for Thea, I'll go crazy. Decisions... I'll take a trial and see how it goes. What about Corona, is that thing coming soon? Or even Indigo? My friend uses it, he gets quite nice results.

Corona is in early beta/alpha.

Thea material editor is so much better than Vrays. It will be very quick to do, when I moved over I just converted them as I used them and now have a decent sized library.

Yes, it's about time Chaosgroup shows/tells more about 3.0 for Sketchup. Corona render and Thea are getting more interesting by the day... Only thing with Corona is that it's only Windows (for the time being).

I was getting sick of waiting, sick of old bugs, sick of lack of any news or development. How long are you going to wait for a beta? They are already on VR3.3 in Max. Then once you get into beta, you are looking at least 8+ months before an actual release. Who knows, maybe they are already in beta without telling us. Maybe it will come out next week? This is my point, we are in complete darkness. What are you supposed to do with that?
I can tell you from my current experience, any lost time from your existing material libraries and proxies will be made up pretty quickly. It takes me a 1/10th of the time setting up a model for rendering in Thea than it did in VRay. Being able to actually use a real-time engine will take out a lot of the guess work that you are used to and the material presets in Thea are just plain easy.
Simple experiment - download and install a demo of Thea, open your heaviest scene, start Presto AO, running directly in the SketchUp window. Now do this with V-Ray RT.
Make the conclusion yourself.

I know guys, I know. I'm sorry we've been so quiet, and there is really no excuse for that, but we have some good news on the horizon. V-Ray 3.0 for SketchUp is being built from the ground up and is a completely different animal. It is going to give us frame work that allows the VfS team to be more nimble, and shorten development cycles between releases significantly. That way we no longer have these long waits and extensive periods of time where we leave everybody hanging. You can feel free to rest that clearly on my shoulders.
That said there is still a lot that needs to be done, but there are great things coming I promise. Those of you who were dedicated testers on the 2.0 release will be joining us for our 3.0 testing and if you're interested in participating please PM me as soon as you can.
I'm sorry to have made you all wait so long for any information. But I want to make V-Ray for SketchUp the best possible product on the market!

Great to hear Ted. You already have a PM with my data.. Can't wait!

Shot you a message back this morning!

Hmm, didn't receive it. I've sent you a PM through Sketchucation as well.

Would love to test out version 3. I am currently working on modeling and rendering an entire house in ketchup and v-ray would be a great way to test the new features...

Nice render!

I know you would, so we are waiting. But hey sir, If I may ask, Can I also beta test 3.0. Ive been a user of vray4SU for about 6 years now.We have 3 licenses in our office. I'd definitely convince them to upgrade once it's out officially. I already PM you my details.
