Web dialogs stopped working
-
As far as I am aware web dialogs are reliant on Internet Explorer (as is Windows Explorer). So if your Windows Explorer is functioning then I imagine that isn't the issue. But I'm not fully versed on the ins and outs here.
The fact SU can't fire up dialogs is suggesting a fault with SU if everything else ok. But maybe one of the gurus can add to my guess work

Not that I know of. I have IE9 on this computer, but I don't use it. And maybe web dialog isn't even right. Does native SU use them for things like File-Import, Preferences, or Save? I have not tried repairing my SU install.
EDIT: I'm not able to repair the installation because Windows wants an msi file. SU installs from an exe. I hate to totally reinstall, but that might be my option...

Hi there Wyatt
You could try this, but of course I don't have to remind anyone of the "excitement" of changing the registry.
Here goes:
Navigate to this location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones
If there are any strange folders in the registry, it causes problem for the web dialog.
Everything works fine if there are folders from 0 to 4 (5 total).Hope this helps,
Sig

Thanks, Sig. I'll check that out and let you know if I find anything different.

No. That is native windows. Nothing to do with WebDialogs.
-
What are web dialogs then? Are they built around Internet Explorer in some way and why would SU fail to display them?
I had terrible trouble with Maxwell and it's use of SilverLight. Some obscure setting in Windows 7 stopped Maxwell from working.

WebDialog are embedded web browser controls. Under windows the IE engine is used, under OSX the webkit engine is used. WebDialogs are used by Ruby scripts to create UI.
File Import, Preferences and Save windows are not WebDialogs - so it sounds to me the problem is not related to WebDialogs.

Download the installation file again, that should let you do a Repair or Reinstallation.

I did, but the repair option would only recognize msi files. On Monday I guess I'll have to reinstall.

Thanks for the explanation, Thom. When the problem first occurred, one of your script's UIs went blank too. I thought you had used a webdialog and thus, assumed incorrectly, that others were the same. Then when Cleanup started working again, I got really confused. I'll see what happens after the reinstall.

Well a full reinstall seemed to fix the problem. I have no idea what caused it, but I have all my plugins loaded and there are no menu errors. Must have been a Friday fluke. Thanks to those who offered ideas and solutions.

Wyatt, I am running SU8 and as of now, all attempts to go to the 3D warehouse are crashing my machine. Brand new computer with fresh installs.
-
The 3dWarehouse's download/access-ability had been broken for the last several hours... BUT it seems to be fixed now...
-
I had read on the Shaderlight forum that some things with the warehouse weren't working right. I don't think that was related to the problem I was having.
-
There must be something wrong. Also Martin reported some bugs...
