How to drop hundreds of trees on a surface without copying them manually?

Try Didier Bur's ComponentSpray tool
Or even my Matrix/Proximity + others Drop or SmartDrop ... or 'fur' ??? -
We have a fur/grass/leave making plugin. Whats stopping us from makaing a 3d tree maker plugin?
A forest making tool set designed for SU would be radical

With the fur plugin you can populate the surface by component and then replace the component for the one you need.

Doesn't the later versions allow to select which component to place?

The fur plugin can populate a certain area with any component you wish. Let it be grass (set it to denser) or trees (set less dense of course).

Thanks and Yeah I already know that. I once made a mountain covered by thousands of nipples (For artistic purposes)
But it would be cool if it created random heights of the tree, applied various different bark textures, make
different styles of trees, all at one go.(for productivity purposes) so that i can focus on design.Something specifically designed for SU
Edit : WHat I currently do is to get 360 forest HDRI and render them in Vray for productivity reasons
due to lack of time. -

Use Chris' random Rotate and Scale for that.

Both component spray and fur can randomly rotate, scale etc. If you take component spray for instance, you can select up to 8 species as components and with this added variation, there can already be some nice forest.
Note the poly count though.
As far as I know, iRender has a fractal tree generator built in. Al Hart even made a free product of it that renders trees and then you can save them as 2D face me components (for far distance trees this is better than full 3D)

Nothing. I started writing one one night. I got it to make the trunk and branches randomly, then got busy and never got passed that unfortunately. It has always been a dream of mine to write this toool.....someday I guess.
