This is a really great set of plugins. Really looking forward to using them. Nice find diego. -
I agree with everyone, this is a great find - thank you Chuck for creating these time savers. I have gone through the tutorials and will be downloading the free versions this morning - probably upgrading by lunch time!
-
As above this is just the best plugin. Do you have a tutorial on the
Edit Slope, Eave and Fascia Settings?
Edit Hips and Rafters Settings?
or should I just play around until I understand the functions
Thanks

Hi Chuck,
Welcome to SCF, and what an introduction. Great toolset. I've been a long time user of 1001bits and this is like it long lost sister.
Congrats

Hi everybody!
"Instant" has kind of been a joke around my house recently too. With me as the butt. I've actually been working on the instantCash program since Fortran days, but I could only ever get it to decrement - never increment.
Here's a link to a pdf where I attempt to show what most of the roof, eave, fascia, rafter and hip parameters do: http://www.valiarchitects.com/sites/default/files/tutorials/pdf/Roof-parameters.pdf
Thanks for all the comments.

Fortran.
Must be in your 60's?
First computer class I ever took (1968). Took longer punching the cards and standing in line to submit them and to get the printout two days later than to figure how to write the 30 or-so line do-loop.
Congratulations of some very useful scripts, Chuck.
Regards, John

Hi Chuck
WOW
Question ?
Have not tried Road King yet but will the road follow a preset path using standard highway slopes/grades and such or is it just a contour follower?
Really slick stuff and thanks for such good docs too.dtr
-
New question:
Does it work with SU 7.1 free
or just 8.0 Pro?Is path hard coded to standard SU install?
If so how about an install that has a path option?Road does not work for me with SU 7.1 free std path and does not show in Plugins for non standard SU 8 Pro path.
thx

Thanks for your help chuck!! Much appreciated.

That Road plugin looks great! Perfect for making roads in Unity too.
OT; It was funny listening to some of the word pronunciations in the videos too- like "roof" pronounced "ruuf"- like a dogs bark! I noticed that the TornadoTwins who make Unity instructional videos on YouTube also say "Hoover" instead of 'hover'. It's just an accent thing that I've always found fascinating (like the American accent, essentially being an Irish accent mixed with German- well that's what the American accent sounds like to me!).
Great plugins. I will probably buy these- especially if the roof plugins can cope with buildings constructed with odd angled walls- like British Edwardian houses for eg.

.Close - I'm 52. I had similar experiences with card punching before I dropped the class. Plus, my professor said that computer programmers would never make any money.

Sorry, it doesn't do anything that fancy. I intended it as more of a schematic design tool. The script takes road center points, finds the corresponding terrain elevations and attempts to make a road with level cross slopes at those elevations. That's really all it does.

i have been trying out your instant road plugin prior to buying but seem to be haveing trouble obtaining the same results as the demo ( both in su 7.1 and 8 ) your comments please
attached file shows the result

Reply to Grim,
The terrain has to be larger than the road plus the shoulder width. So I scaled up the terrain slightly to get it to work. But it made kind of a bumpy road. That's because the road precision was much tighter than the terrain spacing - which makes the road follow the coarse terrain. So in the next copy, I reduced the precision of the road by changing the "adjust number of curve segments" parameter from "3x" to "same as input" and the road was less bumpy. Try turning on hidden lines to see what I mean.
As for "try before buy", all that pro does is let you make a few things wider - everything else is the same. So please see if you like it first. (And can figure out all my cryptic parameters)

Is it possible to create a cross gabled roof as in my attachement, using this software as when I have tried I end up with one roof higher than the other. i'm still using the free version for the time being.

Tails,
It looks like the slope on the one gable is different than that of the other. Is that the intent? The script can make intersecting gables, but the roof slopes must be the same for both parts of the roof. I spent some time trying to make the script capable of generating different roof portions with different slopes, but I kept ending up with a really complicated user interface. So I gave it up, assuming that I would just tell people to generate different sloped parts in separate pieces.

Chuck:
First of all great work, I will be buying all three in the near future.
Do you plan on updating the scripts with more features, and if so how long before a new purchase would be required.

Chuck,
How do I solve the gap between road and ground, I fear it may be because of SU size limitation, but when I opt out of curb and even set hieght to 0, I get gaps.
