New vray
-
Been using the beta. Had V-Ray before that.
Many nice new features.
- IES Lights
- Ambient Occulsion
- Render Region
- More procedural maps
Many good improvements:
- Materials can be copied between models - V-Ray data is preserved
- Missing groups are fixed
- Group/Component materials doesn't cause instance parsing slowdown any more
- 2sided materials accepts bitmap as blending map
Very nice update.
-
Wow, i'd buy it i f i had the money, but you see, i'm missing 350 euros.
-
thomthom....so if I set materials up for an object and started to overhaul my 3d import library, they should import into my projects with the proper material settings? If that is so....im pumped. That would be an awesome workflow change
-
Yea, you can now build components with V-Ray materials pre-setup. Big workflow improvement. Plus the fixed group/component material issue which previously used to add insane processing time.
That and you can render Image elements - and VfSU uses the alpha channel from the diffuse texture.
It's a very good improvement over the old version. Not to mention that this was intended as a pure rewrite to make it work on OSX. We got so much more new stuff. I mean - render region!
-
and ambient occlusion!!
Have you tried the AO in the new version? Does it work well?
-
Oh yea, it works very nice. It often makes the render pick up more details in the corners. But I'm vary of over using it.
The Dirt map is also nice. -
Yeah I know. Sometimes the AO render is a very nice image in itself! As soon as I get to do something decent I'll post it
-
additional spotlight too. i think its faster. still trying to look on material editor. still having difficulty with the amount of multipliers. but overall its an excellent upgrade.

Being written.

Thomthom, if i have a model in one sketchup file with vray materials made in the material editor, if i copy the model to another sketchup file, will the materials in the material editor transfer from one file to the other? In the older version of vray the materials didn't pass from on file to the other.
-
with the new version they are transferred. You can make components libraries where V-Ray materials are already set up. And copy between models works as well.
-
Does the new version has come out, or only the beta? Because when i go to asgvis under 'buy' doesn't mention anything that this is the new vray.
-
Did you really look?
On the front page, http://asgvis.com/ it says in the little speech bubble: "Why am I here? To announce the release of the New V-Ray for Sketchup [...]"
When you click on Software, the next screen says in big letter "Introducing The New V-Ray for SketchUp"
Ditto with the Store section. The new version was released last Wednesday.

Very odd. Can't see any reason why it would not appear. Contact ASGVis support. Have them look at the video.
