Just Released! Subdivide and Smooth
-
I JUST GOT IT YESTERDAY!!!!! im so exited what should i do first
-
Okay, I really like this script, but I have a few questions:
At home, I've got a pretty decent pc [dual core 6400 cpu, 8800 gts and two gigs of ram]
and the thing that worries me is that after subdividing one object, SU isn't running as smooth as it should. Can anyone give me some info on this? what system you are running and how easy SU handels multiple subdivided objects [1 or 2 in subdivision off course]Well, that's actually one question, but an important one
money is no problem, with the 'stable' US dollar I'm paying about 2 euro's here
...
maybe one other question: I've got two other plugins running, V-ray and Sketchyphysics [read: cool and fun ^^] are there any known conflicts?
Thanx in advance

Subd and smoothing is quite a taxing operation for any system, so i wouldnt be surprised if your machine slows down. Ive got an E6750 with 4 gigs of ram and i can quite easily grind it to a halt with a reasonably high poly model and a couple of smoothing iterations.
With respect to the conflicts, i think a few people were having problems with Vray, but that might have been sorted out by now. Id jsut keep an eye out on the forum really and see if anyone comes up with any solutions.

and the thing that worries me is that after subdividing one object, SU isn't running as smooth as it should. Can anyone give me some info on this? There are two things that could cause SU to run slower:
-
Viewport navigation becomes slower due to higher number of polys displayed. This is a limitation of your computer hardware and of SU itself. A high-end video card would definitely help.
-
If you are modelling using proxy subdivision and you have auto-update turned on, the updating may be causing SU to run slow (for example, if you paint the faces of a proxy, it will update each time you paint a face). However, if you are not currently editing the proxy, SU should run at normal speed. Turning auto-update off should also return SU to normal speed.
Hope this helps.

Purchased, and this is so cool! I have to start messing around.

Here is my way of thanking you for that Whaat an amazing plugin.
Plain SU, done with Sub-Smooth and FDD. They just complete each other so very well !!

David,
I was impressed with the practicality and usability of the Indigo exporter, but Subdivide and Smooth really corners the market! I use this method in Studio Max all the time for character modeling, and I can't wait to try it in SU.
Google needs to hire you full time with a huge salary!

You have convinced me that you can now do anything. Have you ever considered creating an exporter for Yafray? It also is xml based, and I feel that it is the best free biased renderer out there. I would say that it competes with the quality of Vray, without displacement.
See the gallery http://www.yafray.org/index.php?s=8&p=0

Thanks for your comments, but I think I am at my limit for Ruby projects! Maintaining one exporter is enough for me, combined with my other projects.

I can understand why you might be feeling this way.

Dear Whaat,
Coming at the end. Havn't followed the exciting story of Subdivide's development..Regrets.
It is Solo Curtains which decided me to download your ruby script from Smustard because there is here some kind of shape i have recently deeply fight to obtain with SU.Good stuff indeed!!
But! -- it's a complex set of tools, and even if i have watched carefully the videos tuts

(english is not ma native language and is not so easy for me to understand)i feel a bit lost. I really need, perhaps not a complete UserGuide but at least a reference QuickCard would be very welcome.Regards, simonlebon

Dale,
Can you make the plugin so that the proxy object is created on a "proxy" layer so i can easily hide/unhide?or will that destroy the functionality of it?
