@phil meadows said: Well Mike, I have a vacant house here in town, and some punks made off with our copper gas lines, and the copper coils in our two AC units. They would have got the plumbing as well, but thankfully it's not copper. The AC guy I have replacing the units says they never even turned of the electricity to the larger unit, and may have gotten a shock when the pulled all the wires. I sincerely hope so. The bastards! I hope the got a good shock also. Having a vacant property is a bloody headache these days. However with the array of low cost camera surveillance equipment that can be monitored by a smart-phone is helping.

I think the reason most jobs are not exceptional, is the definition of "exceptional". Changing that might be simpler. .....But I do intend to give this a look. Thanks for sharing!

I thought the most efficient form of windmill was the Turkish variant. It is inside and the building has vertical slats which can be adjusted to increase or decrease the amount of wind applied to the sails, they also rotate around a vertical rather than horizontal axes.

“When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.” ― Edmund Burke, Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents: Volume 1 Paperback: 001 “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” ― Edmund Burke “Nothing turns out to be so oppressive and unjust as a feeble government.” ― Edmund Burke, Reflections on the Revolution in France “The use of force alone is but temporary. It may subdue for a moment; but it does not remove the necessity of subduing again; and a nation is not governed, which is perpetually to be conquered.” ― Edmund Burke Or to look at another way... You get the government you deserve, and by extension you get the world you deserve...

The sad thing is that the NHS, often quoted of by people like the one in the video clip linked above, does not exist. Having worked in the NHS, the real NHS, I can say what is there today is a travesty. Full name, National Health Service. Take some time and think on what that means. When it first began the mission statement would, if they had one, have been along the lines of "Enabling the citizen and the visitor alike, freedom from disease, injury and infirmity so they may contribute to the ability of the nation to prosper and be safe". I am talking about health issues but there are too many distractions from health care which take money and resources away from what should be its core, health care. Doctors are on a contract which means they are essentially self employed, did you know that? It means standards are very difficult to police. Take note of the recent scandals if you need evidence of that. Doctors have so much power that they overwhelm the efforts of managers to do the job properly. How many people are given breast augmentation? How many of those are from cancer reconstruction? Not as many as you might think. Many of our health service junior and middle managers have little or no formal education as managers despite the efforts of 'our Maggie'. Most of these have a pathetic level of ability to make a budget balance and what you get is a group of cliques making themselves look good by cooking figures and destroying the careers of dissenters while promoting arse kissers who go on to do the same thing. The NHS 'could' be something to be proud of but frankly nobody has the balls to do the job that needs to be done by restricting the powers of cliques, removing the ability of senior doctors to sabotage the system and returning to the core mission. Holding your breath is optional, I feel sorry for those in the USA, if you do not manage to get strict safeguards in place you will spend a lot of money helping certain health and insurance 'professionals' to become very rich indeed and still people will die when they should not. I am not going to tell you MY nightmares from experiences working within the system, they are rightly and properly mine alone. You will doubtless have nightmares of your own to worry about.

Mike A you must be quite a film watcher. But there's hardly anything new on Netflix or the newer stuff is not the better films. I found foreign films, especially Asian, but after years of NF, I think I've exahausted any fresh film offerings that I'd want to watch. I did watch Cosmos on it and this is another reason to dump the service (after I finish up the last Madmen).

Although the blog you posted are about playing The Sims, it's very similar with Minecraft... I'm amazed by the fantasy my kids have when building various kind of houses... (though... they tend to make the kids rooms bigger than the master bedroom... )

Very shortly here are the main dangers of the Trans-Atlantic "Free Trade" Agreement : FOOD SAFETY: Our safety standards, much stricter than American standards and the "international standards" (levels of pesticides, bacterial contamination, toxic additives, GMOs, hormones, etc.) could be condemned as "illegal trade barriers" standards. SHALE GAS: European governments no longer would regulate exports of natural gas to the nations TAFTA. Hydraulic fracturing could become a law for companies that might require damages from nations that oppose it. JOBS : Companies wishing to relocate in states affected by the project TAFTA where wages are lower, would be protected. The Survey and the Labour Code becoming illegal, no more notice of termination. Employment center should be privatized or be sued by temporary companies for unfair competition. The consequences of TAFTA on the unemployment rate in Europe would only be harmful. HEALTH & RETIREMENT: Drugs could be patented longer, pharma groups could block the distribution of generics. Emergency services could be privatized. Private insurance could sue the CPAM (Primair fund health insurance) for unfair competition. The PAYG could be dismantled, the insurance companies would replace the CRAM ARRCO AGIRC (French national pension funds)... WATER & ENERGY: These assets would be privatized. Any Opposing municipality could be charged with obstruction of freedom of trade, ditto for energy, whether fossil, nuclear or renewable. Nuclear safety would be reduced. The price of gas and KW would be free. FREEDOM & PRIVACY: As the public revolt, companies hoping to lock up and monopolize the Internet have failed last year to pass their repressive ACTA; more pernicious texts are in the TAFTA. PUBLIC SERVICES: The TAFTA would limit the power of states to regulate public services such as personal services, road, rail, etc. and reduce the principles of universal and wide access to these critical needs. CULTURE & ARTS PRODUCTION: Large producers of audiovisual could ban private or professional low budget productions like youtube, vimeo, dailymotion, collaborative funding would be made illegal. National museums would lose their right of preemption on the national art treasures for the benefit of private collectors. EDUCATION: Private universities could sue the Ministry of Education for unfair competition. From kindergarten to doctorate, private companies would challenge schools, school canteens and university restaurant, any municipal, regional or national subsidies. We all know the damages caused by the NAFTA : https://www.policyalternatives.ca/newsroom/updates/nafta-chapter-11-increasing-threat-public-good The European commission mandated for the negotiation - supported by France - to transform EU and USA into a single market and subjugate the peoples to the law of private companies, that is to say, the law of profit alone. An other world is possible than the one multinational companies are preparing for their benefits. SAY NO TO TAFTA! [image: sPxP_stoptaftacouche-62.jpg]
