I hate copper thieves.

Just a quick note to say that the evil gang of thieves who cost me $6000 damage to my AC and gas lines are terrorists and should have airstrikes called on them.

It's really getting prevalent around here too. The metal salvage places now have to get copies of ID for anyone who sells Copper.

Well Mike, I have a vacant house here in town, and some punks made off with our copper gas lines, and the copper coils in our two AC units. They would have got the plumbing as well, but thankfully it's not copper.
The AC guy I have replacing the units says they never even turned of the electricity to the larger unit, and may have gotten a shock when the pulled all the wires. I sincerely hope so.

We had a university renovation project years ago which had security fencing and University security, yet thieves still managed to break in and steal all the copper wire! Luckily, the contractor was insured.
I think incidences of copper theft have fallen off around here since they've required the scrap metal businesses to identify people selling copper. But, I've read the theft of manhole covers (for scrap) has become a problem now. -
There have been a number of thefts of copper from new construction around here. Thieves have even taken wiring out of barns on active farms around here. It isn't too unusual to hear of a copper thief being found fried to a crackly crisp. Here in the hospital where I work, we have a lot of remodeling going on and they are pulling out and replacing miles of old copper plumbing for medical gasses as well as water and other stuff. The old copper gets locked up in a secured area until it can be taken to the recycling center. Security cameras, guards, etc.
I think now if you show up at a recycling center in this area, you have to be able to prove where you got the copper and that you are the one who is authorized to drop it off.

The bastards! I hope the got a good shock also.
Having a vacant property is a bloody headache these days. However with the array of low cost camera surveillance equipment that can be monitored by a smart-phone is helping.
