('jason'..yeah yeah..confusing..haha) i figured it was a little inspiring..and relatively simple to build.. they built bits and pieces..and bits and pieces popped up for them as they went through the scenes...of course, some things didnt necessarily line up with what they drew...but whatever..

380, Here's what I recall, mostly accurate I think. You need to have a usenet newsreader and access to a news server. A web browser, such as IE or Firefox, does not read the network news transfer protocol (NNTP), but either hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) or file transfer protocol (FTP). Outlook Express has a news client, but Outlook does not. The Thunderbird e-mail client (companion to Mozilla Firefox) also has a built-in news client. Forte Agent is a well known stand-alone news reader. It's predecessor, Free Agent (which was free) is apparently defunct. News servers provide access to news groups, generally by downloading the contents of some horrendous number of individual newsgroup hosts on a periodic basis. Many (used to be most) ISPs have or provide access to a news server. There are a number of free news servers out there, which tend to be short-lived. -Gully Edit: Incidentally, and perhaps ironically, Google Groups (which many on this forum consider too icky for their refined sensibilities) provides web-based access to a huge number of internet usenet newsgroups and maintains an archive of their contents (which it acquired from the one-time internet giant Deja View) going back to the mid 90s, and if you don't have a newsreader and a news server, it's a reasonable alternative. poster-Gully Foyle

Cheers Guys! It sucks having to go to work on your birthday, though I'm going to have to scan (and post) the Birthday card the compositing team did for me. Apparantly, I look a lot like Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter for those who don't read credit lists...). What with the film out last week, and the book out this week, well... have a guess... Take care all AJ

Yeah, I've been playing a bit with Doyle's techniques as shown in the 3rd edition using photoshop over a SketchUp or hand-drawn base, and adding a little hand work. I'm not very facile with it yet, and haven't really had the time to spend on it that I'd like, but I do see the potential benefits of letting each tool do what it does best. I'm not a complete Luddite...

I've had a chance to play with it a little more since I originally posted the QCAD link. It is a decent little CAD program...I ended up buying a license for both my PC and my Linux machines. It seems like it bogs down faster than AutoCAD, though...not yet suitable for the kind of large project my firm does, but sufficient for ordinary domestic architecture or simpler work (in my opinion). The most annoying aspect of the program, for an AutoCAD user, is that you can't grab individual vertices...you just have to use the Stretch command very selectively. But there is a nice "auto" snap feature that is somewhat like SketchUp's inferences, except that it also wants to snap to the underlying grid...to make it not do so, you have to make the grid some insanely large size. I'll take a look at those links you posted, RegH. Thanks.

same here James but tradesmen are really in demand. A developer near me on the Gold Coast is flying carpenters up from Melbourne, 2000klms away, housing them in hotels, flying them home every fortnight and paying well above award rates just to get his project completed on time. tradesmen are making 1500 - 2000 per week and all drive around in big SUVs and go fishing in the weekend in their big power boats. cheers john

I like the roll up feature... but they don't support multiple monitor snapping for some reason...

yeah Tox, that's what I usually do, just export a pdf straight from SUp or from Cute pdf, but I can't do that with templates longer than 100", that's why I need to use Corel. Is there a low cost pdf creator that will export longer than 100"??
