Thats a rather nifty little trick hellfire, i dont suppose theres anythign similar for windows?

Unfortunately no as I never had the need to rearrange the menus around for the Windows version. The only reason I was doing it for the Mac version is because Leopard has to use the latest version and the new menu arrangement for version 6 really slows me down.

      Hi,

No,you cannot disable it (actually thet's not the Google toolbar itself) The status bar (which it is) cannot be disabled - neither it could be in SU6 where the VCB is). The best is IMO to keep the Measurement box in there o that it won't occupy further space.

That is nonsense! Of course you can disable it if you got the tools that is. Just download the Developer's Tools from the Apple site and use the interface builder to customize the interface and menus to your liking. It is so simple that no manual is required.

I have never used Milkshape so my opinions may not work for you. Is there an option to select the type of image export? If yes use .bmp or .jpg.
I assume you require the texture to be mapped to mesh, if not why not texture in SU using the same textures you used in Milkshape?
I use Vue inf for mapping complexed meshes and then bake to polygons before exporting, I make sure that if the model is in say inches I set SU to inches too before importing.

      Hope this helps.

All the textures are .png and I do not believe there is a way to change that. How does a .png texture affect the import?

You brought up a good point with the units but there isn't an option to change it.

I think I got the problem...MilkShape 3D never exported the textures that I expected to go along with it. I open the exported file and there it was...without textures. Does anyone know how to include the textures with the exported model?

    • Troubles with 3Ds import

I am trying to import some models into Sketchup that had been converted into the .3Ds format using MilkShape 3D 1.7.0. The problem is that although Milkshape shows a textured model, Sketchup does not as it says it cannot find the textures for it.

I checked out the Sketchup Help Centre about the problem and it read:

      @unknownuser said:

I'm getting a message that SketchUp could not create texture when I import a 3DS file.

If you want a 3DS import to include textures, before the import you must save the texture files in the same folder as the 3ds file itself.

However, the textures are in the same folder with the .3Ds file.

I had tried using Biturn which can convert a .ms3d (MilkShape 3D) model into a .3Ds model. However, some textures are miss positioned resulting in "holes" where the texture is transparent. (The model itself is still fine.) Notice the "holes" in the horns and rear.

If anyone can offer some help that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Was the model originally created by you in SketchUp or is it imported?

They keys of the keyboard were taken from J-m@n's "Standard Qwerty Keyboard" model. I am not sure if that was modeled in Sketchup. The rest of it is created in Sketchup 5.0.305.

      Wow that's weird... 😲
Do the skb (autosave) files present this problem, too? Maybe try to leave SU open for a while than exit without saving the model and open the autosaved skb file to see if those faces are still in there. If so, don't save it but maybe share the skb file with us somehow and we can have a look into it.

      I shall try doing that.

I had actually successfully copied and saved the keyboard and keys by creating a new Sketchup file in which I pasted the keyboard in. It took two steps though or else it will blow holes in the board again. I first copied the "board" and pasted it in then the keys.

I shall upload both the old file (skp and skb) along with the new one so you can compare them.

EDIT: The files are uploaded here:

Okay I scaled the model up 10 times and re-ran the validity check. The attached is what it spat out at me. I am not sure what it means but it sure deleted those same faces again. I am not sure how I am to fill the holes back up.

    • RE: Annoying Save Glitch

Well I fixed the faces and clicked the "Fix Problems" button under "Statistics". It told me there were no problems. Then I tried saving the model again and, to my surprise, it blew holes in the keyboard again. I am baffled.

    • Annoying Save Glitch

I could not seem to save my keyboard model properly anymore because some function called "Check Validity" deletes some faces of my model every time I tried to save it. Please note that I am still using version 5.0.305 as shown in the screen capture.

I had to upload the model on File front as the .skp file is too big to upload here (3.70 MB).

    • Follow Me tool not working with curve

I find the Follow Me tool, even after lots of practice, to be the most difficult tool to master. Below is an image of a case where I am trying to drag a shape around a track to form a curve for the edges of the keyboard I am modeling.

      http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/8057/followme3iz0.th.jpg

The problem is that the Follow Me tool skipped the beveling of the corners. This may be that the corner is too sharp or the shape is too small. I am not sure what exactly is the cause of the problem. The last image is my "attempt" to do the corners although it looks quite horrible.

I know these images are not too helpful so I decided to attach the .skp file. Thanks for your help!
