      I folks.

See attached SU file for ideas.

      Jean,

Once again you proved to obtain a solution with basic SU tools, great!!
We tend to forget the possibilities of more 'complex' ++ or +/- selections with Crtl and Shift.
      Thanks for sharing.

      Gaieus,

Nice of you to remember. I had those dummy lines in a dummy layer to
be checked or unchecked but I like your idea to have them as hidden geometry.
      Great tut. thanks to you!!!

      cheers,

    • RE: [Tutorial > Modeling] why dont my doors make holes in walls

Thanks Gaieus and Suzan for your tip about ‘wall thickness and components cutting holes’ (just back from 3 wks France, that explains the delay in responding)
I will certainly look into it to see where I went wrong. I do remember also trying to nest two components (inner/outer) in one and later exploding that component again. But in vain. The result was always: loss of the cutting ability for both the inner and outer components. Thanks again.

I didn't realize that this was possible either. Playing with it, I'm having a hard time getting it right, but with more practice I imagine I'll be able to do it reliably.

      SchreiberBike,

This might help you when painting edges:

      • select ‘Wire Frame’ mode
      • make a copy of the object (this way you only get the edges copied)
      • now select View>Edge Style>Profile (thick lines)
      • paint whatever needs to be painted
      • move back the wire frame to same location as the original object
this object will now inherit the painted edges

Note that even when painting the edges you can have ‘Shaded With Textures’ selected again so you will see the object next to the wire frame with its thick lines.

      Edson,

if you hide SOME edges in a group or component, they won't be unhidden even if you go to Edit > Unhide > All.
This way you can "turn off" edges selectively.

As for colouring them individually, to me it is quite satisfactory. Explain, please, why it is not good enough for you!

as far as i know, one cannot select a few edges and give them a different color from the rest. or can one? unless i am mistaken you can only change the color of ALL the edges. that is what i mean by not being good enough.

what if i wanted to draw a few red lines for the sake of highlighting some part of a scheme?

      Edson,

Like Gaieus mentioned, you can indeed color edges differently anyway you like.
See (as an example I did a while ago):

    • RE: More axis requests

      @gaieus said:

Yes but you only have to do it once in a model and use that scene all the way during modelling!

      Gaieus,

      Thank for that brilliant tip.
4 extra scenes with only rotated axes saved (I have those scenes top/left on screen) will only take about 10% of the width of my screen, the only drawback. Where ever you are in a model, just one click will do the trick! (sounds like a commercial 😄)
To know that it was always there and it’s so simple that I have now filed my own workaround under G.
(I used a protractor component and in edit mode just needed to use ‘align axes’ for each different setup, independent of scenes)
      Thanks again!!!

      Wo3Dan.

p.s. crojack, copying a scene will copy the checked/unchecked settings.
A new alignment of axes will only take you a few clicks to set things up. Something you will always have to do.
It’s almost as you described isn’t it.
