Yes, it can cause effects like what you see in your rendering. There's a checkbox to use UV, you want to have that box unchecked.
I would highly recommend using Fredo's Thrupaint plugin for applying textures to your SU model.
Note that default texture size in vfs is 10 inches (254mm) = UV of 1.0
The bump maps should correspond with your SU material and there shouldn't be any need to adjust the UVW scale in vray.
