      Hi Fred,

When SketchUp crashes, do you see a dialog where you can submit a crash report? If so, can you submit a crash with your e-mail (you can private message me with it) or with some unique comment that I can search on and find? I'll look up the crash and see if gives us any clues.

Is it possible to send me your plugins directory (zipped up) so that I could try to troubleshoot the issue with the gray menus?

BTW I am new to the forum!

Hi Steve - are you still seeing this issue?

And Dan, are you still seeing the rendering error? What seems to be going on here is that Add Location is mis-behaving - it should never make you login (which might be related to the 401 error as well). I'm curious whether anyone else, when adding a location, is seeing either a 401 error or a login screen?

      Thanks in advance,

      Hi Grice,

This bug has a high priority, but I don't know when it will be fixed. I will, however, bring it up again and lobby for it. I believe it is a complex, risky fix which makes it harder to put into a maintenance release, unfortunately.

that's a very handy bit of code, are there any more like that available?

I'm glad it is useful. That is the main start-up option that is supported.

      not only Lion issues

it does show me that the inability to 'print to scale' on more than one A4 sheet is a BUG not my plugins.

There are two Mac-specific bugs we are hoping to fix in the next maintenance release of SketchUp that sound related to this. One is that scaling is not accurate when exporting to PDF/EPS, and the other is that the print width and height settings aren't remembered, which means you can't print to multiple pages. Are you running into one or both of these?

Yes - thanks! Do let me know if turning off autosave makes a difference. I worried about autosave on Lion too, but we haven't yet found any bugs.

If autosave doesn't seem to be the culprit, it would be good to rule out Ruby plugins by launching SU with Ruby plugins disabled. To do that on the Mac:

      1. Launch SketchUp

      2. Try to recreate the bug

      3. Close SketchUp
4.Open terminal and type the following two lines to launch SU with Ruby disabled:

        cd /
        Applications/Google\ SketchUp\ 8/SketchUp.app/Contents/MacOS/SketchUp -DisableRubyAPI YES

      4. Try to recreate the bug (if you can't recreate it, Ruby plugins are the culprit)

      5. Exit SketchUp

      6. Launch SketchUp the normal way - Ruby plugins should again be enabled.

      Thanks in advance,

While working on Lion, could you ask the Google team to have a look at the problem of Safari 5.0.6 not showing images in Web Dialogs.

At this stage, we need to have some technical details on how SU configures web dialogs when created with set_html. This will help us to validate the workarounds we are exploring.

      Thanks very much

However, when I upgraded Lion to 10.7.1, I got the white line bug described in this thread. I don't know if this is a result of the internal Intel graphics chip on the MBA, or if all users running SU on Lion 10.7.1 are noticing it?

      Hello,

I too am curious if others are seeing this bug with 10.7.1. Anyone? It does sound like it is related to the Intel graphics card, but it certainly sounds like a frustrating issue that needs to, at a minimum, be reported to Apple. If you do see the issue, can you go to Preferences > OpenGL and, just as an experiment, turn off "Use Hardware Acceleration" to see if the issue will go away on relaunch? That step will confirm the issue is related to the graphics card. Christophe - have you upgraded to 10.7.1 and are shadows still behaving for you?

      Hi Grice/Csaba,

This is indeed a valid bug that was introduced with 7.1 and something we found too late in the game to try to fix for SU8 M1. It is different than the shadow bug and occurs with animation export, but is not visible when viewing the model. We have it in our bug database and it is in the queue to be evaluated for fixing.

I'll add this thread to the bug. Thanks for reporting it!

    • RE: SketchUp 8 Bugs & Troubles!

      Hi all,

Yes - we do have a known bug with selecting 3d polylines (created by holding Shift down when using the Freehand tool) which was introduced in 7.1 with the changes to speed up rendering/selection. It didn't make the cut for 8.0 or 8.0 M1 as it is not an easy fix and we haven't heard lots of reports about it (probably given that it is a pretty hidden feature).

I added this thread to the bug we have though and will designate it in a way that will give it more visibility.

      Thanks for bringing it up,

I think there's a bug in Sketchup 7.1 and the use of 'Engineering' Units [always feet].
If you change to 'Decimal' Units [feet] it works fine. Also any other units format also works properly too...

BUT with Units set to Engineering Feet with a negative Z it does a 'round' to an integer and does a double negative to boot, when data is taken from the -ve Z point: it's reported wrongly as a length/length.to_s e.g. --20' instead of -20.5'. ๐Ÿ˜ข

      Hi TIG,

Right you are - this is a bug that has been reported by others as well. It is not new to 7.1 but it is on our radar. I'll make a note in the bug that it you reported it as well.

      Hi Marc,

Not sure I see this one. Is it possible to post a model that shows it? In the first maintenance release of 7.1, we are going to address the fact that selection (which includes sampling materials) is not as precise as it used to be. I'm testing the candidate release now and would like to make sure this issue is fixed.

      Thanks in advance!

      Hi,

I'm interested in getting more details on this issue. Do you see it with all models (e.g. if you create a box and add a section plane will you be unable to select the section plane?). If so, as an experiment, does turning off hardware acceleration cause the issue to go away?

I've been crashing since the upgrade. Too early to know what's been causing it, but i had three crashes with one fourty-five minute class.

      Hi Troy,

Is it possible that you are running SketchUp without hardware acceleration? To check, go to Preferences > Open GL and see if "Use Hardware Acceleration" is checked or not. If it is unchecked, turn it on, exit SU and relaunch.

There is a known crash that can occur when running SketchUp in software on the Mac and doing things like orbiting, especially with large models. We are working on a fix but it has us stumped so far.

If that is not the issue, do you have any more information on what you were doing or whether it is specific to certain models?

      Thanks in advance,

    • RE: SUpro 7 on OSX 10.5.6 locks up entire UI for all apps

A few more questions on this one.

Nicoloco - are you still not crashing with Fast Feedback off? If so, that is a really important clue. If you turn on Fast Feedback, can you recreate the issue with all models or just certain ones? It sounds like you were thinking it might be model related...

Tim - does turning off Fast Feedback in Preferences > OpenGL seem to fix your lock up as well?

Fast Feedback speeds up the drawing actions in your model (vs things like the speed at which you can orbit around) and only kicks in when performance degrades below a certain threshold. So Fast Feedback will only kick in when working on larger models. If you both are only seeing this issue with more complex models when Fast Feedback is enabled, that might be a further clue.

Also, we are wondering if you see a pattern in how many document windows you have open at the time of the crash. Or whether it seems to happen only with certain actions - e.g. only when adding geometry, or when selecting things etc...

Sorry for all the questions. We really appreciate your willingness to help us try to get to the bottom of this one.
