    • Maxwell Studio question...

      Hi All,

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but-

I am using Maxwell Studio (full version) for rendering my Sketchup models. It is working really well, however, is there any way to make the preview window any larger?! It strikes me that is is way too small; I can just about see what is going on, but it would be useful to enlarge it a little.. I understand it will be low res, but surely a larger image would be more useful?

I am using Multi light- again a superb addition, and very useful for what I am doing.

Any pointers would be most helpful,

      Thanks!

    • Fredotools Thrupaint- base texture / colour and PNG

      Hi All

I am using Fredotools Thrupaint plug in for Sketchup to apply textures, and images as textures to both flat and curving surfaces on exhibition stand designs. These are then rendered in Maxwell plug in. So far, so good. One issue I have come across is I have surfaces with existing material applied (just a simple white surface). I want to apply a logo which has been created in Illustrator and saved as a .png, as a decal if you like, whilst retaining the previously textured image underneath (as the png is has no background/ transparent etc.)

Is there a way of being able to do this? I was thinking I may have to assign the RGB value of the colour to use as the 'base' material in Illustrator and save out the image with the logo already applied, but wasn't sure how well the colour value would match in Sketchup..

Has any one encountered this, or have any work arounds? The Thrupaint tool is much more efficient than projecting textures on curves etc in Sketchup!

      Many thanks!

      Hi

I am using Cutlist, no idea what this component is- Ill see if I can get it to do it again and post the image...

      Thanks

Also, I am noticing on running the plug in it is adding in a component near the origin- not a component I have in my model either!

    • RE: Easy way to determine components list etc, export parts list

Thanks for your response; I am getting there.. I am experiencing some strange issues though; for some reason, even when using the same settings, it doesn't always run. Has anyone else experienced this? Seems a bit on and off at times, sometimes it works fine and exports a summary, sometimes it hangs and sometimes not at all?

      Thanks

    • RE: Easy way to determine components list etc, export parts list

      Hi,

I am using the cutlist plug in with relative success; it seems a great way to be able to export a summary of what is contained in a model. However, on larger models with many components it is struggling- is there any useful hints to help streamline the process? Groups, explode etc? The model is 50mb. Also seem to be getting the warning regarding oversize stock, which I assume is relating to wood work

Any points would be really handy!

      Thanks again

    • RE: Easy way to determine components list etc, export parts list

Thank you for this, it looks really useful. I have been able to add in prompt words or numbers from each part- and it allows me to export a .csv file and quantity of each. Many thanks for this, it is most appreciated!

      Regards

Thanks for this, I looked at the Cutlist plug in, might re visit it and see if I can tailor it more to what I need. Many thanks for your response

    • Easy way to determine components list etc, export parts list

      Hi

I am currently working with a modular exhibition kit system. Each component in Sketchup has its own product number / name. Once I have assembled a stand, is there an easy way to export a component list / assembly summary so this can be passed on for costings and to our production department? I am looking for something that lists each part and how many of that part are used in each design. I have seen some plug ins but they were more geared towards carpentry, anything more product based for quantities? Obviously, anything which allows a value attribute to be attached would be even better. Ideally so we can export and paste into a spreadsheet etc.

      Thank you,

      Tom

    • Applying photo / image to curving surface

      Hi All

Firstly thanks for this superb resource, it is a wonderful thing, providing many with useful information and helpful tips. I am having some issues with wrapping a photograph to a curved surface, please see attached image. The surface is made of multiple frames with infill panels. I have tried using the projected method, but it is difficult to work out how one would get this to work without the image ( a woman's face) being stretched / distorted with the curve moving in and out. I projected the image, which covered the surface- but as mentioned it was distorted.

I then thought about pasting the image, using the hidden geometry showing. Unfortunately as can be seen from (attached) the hidden lines are tiny and there are many.. I have tried adjusting this with soften edges- not sure if I am barking up the wrong tree here..

Any pointers would be most welcome, and in particular, with the projected method- would I need to do this in sections given the curve sweeps out then back in?!I have looked at Aidan Chopra's tutorial based on a 'corporate logo' text, but his works in a line, if you are with me. Mine needs to take into account the corner the walls occupy.

      Many thanks!!

      Tom
