Can i save to an .skm with .vismat link?
Hi all,
I'm having this problem with .skm and .vismat materials. I'm using Sketchup Pro 8 with Vray 1.6 on windows 7. My materials are stored on a NAS. I was wondering if i save a material in my model to a .skm, will it i some way remember the .vismat related to it?
I would like to just add materials to my model with the paintbucket from my the materials library so that the vismat settings are automatically applied.
If tried this but when I use the paintbucket to paint my .skm i get a bugsplat. When copy/pasting a material from another model, or when embedded in a component, this does work. But when importing directly from the sketchup materials library i get the bugsplat.Any thoughts?

Organizing vismat materials
Hi,
I'm beginning to have this problem of organizing all my .skm and .vismat materials.
Here at work every project has it's own 'project folder'. We also have this folder and subfolders with all my textures which i gathered through the years from various sources and websites. Sketchup materials are stored in the model but texture maps assigned to a .vismat are not.If i want to assign a .vismat to my scene i simply load it in trough the vray material editor and take the .vismat file from this big 'textures folder'. Sometimes i need to edit the assigned bitmaps with photoshop to get another hue, so then i already get another version of the originalvismat file. This folder with all my textures really needs to get sorted out and reordered but then all the paths to the maps assigned to the vismats will be broken.
Should i better keep a copy of all my needed vismat materials in the 'project folder' for future projects? But then i'm afraid my materialsI'm just curious how you guys organize your vray materials collection, so it doesn't become a big mess over time. This question can be applied to any render engine, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

Plugin for simplifying geometry?
Hi,
I am searching in the "plugin index" for a plugin to simplify my geometry.
For instance: I've imported a .3ds file from a chair, which has a lot of faces.
I would like to simplify this model by just using a plugin.
Like when i should use it on a cilinder with 12 faces, i could reduce it to a cilinder with 6 faces.
Is this possible and is there a plugin i can use from the Plugin Index?Thx

Glued imported images
Hi,
I usuallly import images by simply drag-and-dropping them into my model. Then the image is automatically glued to a face.
When i copy and move the same image somewhere on the same plane, the image is no longer glued onto this plane, and is no longer visible.
Just like the same you get when I do rightclick on the image > unglue.Is there a way to glue images back to a face, so it is visible agian on the plane? Once an image is unglued, i can't seem to glue it back on a surface.

Newly created layer not visible in existing scenes
Hi,
a while ago I thought I a came across a plugin on this forum but i forgot the name of it.
When a new layer was created, this layer it's visibility was turned off on the already existing scenes.
Anyone who knows which plugin i mean?Thx

Is there a plugin which allows creating sublayers in de Layer window? I thought a came across it a while ago in the Plugin Index but I can't seem to find it anymore. Or is there no such plugin available?

Hi,
First, thanks for this plugin, it's great. Most of the time i need the stretch tool, i'm trying to implement this in my worflow for stretching cabinets, windows, doors, ... but i keep getting the same bugsplat while using it.
even with very simple geometry.I make a cube and group it (let's call it cube1). A make a copy of it (cube2) so i have the exact same cubes next to each other. I select both cube1 and cube2 and putting into a new group (cubegroup.
so now i have a my newly made group (cubegroup) with 2 nested groups inside (cube1 and cube2). I can use the stretch-tool on this without any problem. After stretching I duplicate my cubegroup. In my entity info window i see that there are 2 of these groups in my model. when i try to stretch my 2nd cubegroup, i get a bugsplat. see my video:
Youtube VideoNow when i do exactly the same, but instead of trying to stretch my second cubegroup after duplicating it. I first edit my group by entering it, and leaving it. Now my Entity info window says there is just 1 of group of this in my model instead of 2. take a look at my second video where i don't get the bugsplat:

@GWydouw, how do you fix this at your office when you section on components or groups-inside-a-group?
I've tried mixing the results of sectioncutface.rb and realSection together into 1 group but it gets a bit tricky and sections are no longer updateable. Is there a workaround ?Thanks

This is really a nice plugin. I've been looking for a plugin like this for a long time.
Also many thanks for the section-hatch materials.I don't have any experience with ruby scripting, but maybe an extra useful feature would be if you could assign a lineweight thickness to the group/material that is sectioned? Maybe trough an extra parameter that can be entered in the "define realSection material"-popup window. With this you could get a better readability of construction drawings. In the "SectionCutFace.rb"-plugin this is possible, but only for the whole section plane.
For example: walls could have thickness 5, furniture thickness 3, etc...greetings from a fellow belgian

Solid groups problem
Hi,
I'm having a problem with solid groups.
I have no problem with using the solid tools. But sometimes if i have a quite complex solid group, there could stay some "lost" edges inside, making it just a regular group, which can not be used with the solid tools. When i search inside the solid, most of the time i can find and delete the lost edge(s), making my regular group back into a solid group. But sometimes I just can't find it.Is there some plugin i can use for "purging" these lost edges inside a group ?
Or some other fast method ?
I've looked in the plugins-topic but couldn't really find which one i needed.Thanks
