    • How do you make toggle terrain function (Mac 10.7)

      Hello All,

I can't make toggle terrain functional. I want to add a bit of google earth real estate beneath my model. How can I make this happen?

      Many thanks!
      Cheers,

      Jeff Olson

    • RE: Deleting extruded surface

Thank you Gaieus! I will zoom in and look for leaks. The hull was formed with a curved line on a flat plane and then "lathed" using "follow me" around a circle.

    • Deleting extruded surface

      Hello All,

I have a model of a boat hull. When I extrude the surrounding water surface upward, the inside of the boat floods. I cannot seem to select just the surface of the water that lies inside of the boat to delete it. I chose "intersect with model" and I can see that there is a visible edge bounding the water surface on the inside of the boat. When I select it - all of the water outside of the boat gets selected, too. Any advice?

      Best, Jeff

      Hello Gaieus and Dave R.,

It was the materials editor. I un-checked the "face transparency" option and that fixed it. I really appreciate your help! Cheers, Jeff

      Hello Gaieus,

Yes - I am still using v7. Here is a 2D export. It is a jpg - would you need it in a different format? Thank you! Cheers, JeffSlide1.jpg

    • Sketchy Styles: How to hide lines

      Hello All,

I have created a model of house, used sketchy styles to depict it. I see edges in the back of the house that I don't want to see. It's as if the walls of the house are slightly transparent. How can I fix this? Thank you! Cheers, Jeff

    • Adding color to model of house shingles

      Hello All,

I am modeling a house. I imported from 3d warehouse a model of staggered house shingles and used the paint bucket to fill a portion of the house exterior with this shingle pattern (uncolored). I want to "paint" the white shingles a green color. When I apply green "paint", the shingle pattern disappears and all I have is a solid green wall (with no shingle texture). How can I have both - shingles and green. Thanks! Jeff

Thanks mitcorb! I think the "Curtiss" or "Coca-cola logo on a bottle" are good analogies for my issue. Best, Jeff

    • Draping a 2D image onto a curved surface??

      Hello All,

I have modeled a curved surface (supposed to look like a large open book). I would like to drape a 2D image onto it. Can't seem to do it - any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

    • Dimensioning a house drawing, dimensions don't stay put

      Hello All,

Didd drawing of kitchen. Added several dimensions. Dimensions stay put for a few minutes then they disappear or randomly change themselves to an inaccurate dimension. What's going on here? Thanks, Jeff

That would be interesting - it would get messy fast but maybe you just go in and start deleting the measurements you didn't care about. Thanks!

    • Automatically adding all dimensions to a drawing

      Hello All,

Wondering if there is a trick to automatically adding all dimensions to a drawing? Doing a kitchen remodel and would prefer not to have to this all manually.

      Thanks, Jeff

    • RE: Animation details

Thanks Gaieus! If I export a series of stills - does it automatically know that I intend to export ~29 frames per second? In other words - does it do the 'still' export as a batch. I hope I wouldn't have to rotate the object, export still, rotate it a tiny increment, export still....On and on. Cheers, Jeff

    • Animation details

      Hello All,

Still on the quest for smooth animations... I have free versions of SU 6 and 7. When I do animations, I export to 'animation", set everything DV quality, high frame rate. My results are so-so. Presumably the computer is creating a whole bunch of still images somewhere - first, where are they, and 2nd what format are they - should I assume that because I have the free version that they are all rasters? If I got the pro version - would I then have the option to export them as vectors (and get smoother images - fewer jaggies)? Would my results improve if I exported the animations as a lot of still images rather than as 'animation' - and increase the dpi and increase the # of pixels X # of pixels? How about interlaced vs. progressive (mine have been interlaced so far)? How about this - if an object were rotated 360 degrees with 36 scenes (10 deg rotation) versus 10 scenes (36 deg of rotation) would the animation be smoother? Thanks! Jeff

Thank you linea! Is there already a sky/ clouds image loaded (I have free SU 6) or do I need to snap a digital sky photo myself and put it in the styles library?

      Cheers,

    • Adding Blue Sky and Clouds to SU (don't have Piranesi)

      Hello All,

I'd like to add beautiful blue sky and clouds to still image from SU animation. I don't have Piranesi. Can I import image to Photoshop and add sky/ clouds as a layer? What file format will preserve the best image resolution and color fidelity? Thanks in advance!

    • SU Animation: Why the spin, pause, spin, pause?

      Hello All,
I'd like animations to look smooth. But in some cases the desired smooth spinning model pauses (presumably at the point where you have specified a "Scene"), then starts again, then pauses again when you get to the next "scene". I'd prefer the model to spin with no pauses. Any advice?

      Cheers,

      Jeff Olson
