    • RE: Exporting a sectioned model?

Have tried using that, is a helpful plugin, although it doesn't achieve the results that I'm wishing for.

I'm needing a section that cuts through groupings as well, and after the cut is easy to remove the geometry on the unwanted side.

Since I am wanting to export the 3d from sketchup, my section planes by themselves do not transfer to the other program.

    • Exporting a sectioned model?

I haven't been able to find any help in exporting '3d' sections from sketchup.
I would assume exporting a 2d section would be relatively easy being able to group via the section plane, however I wish to export the '3d' section (rather hard to explain)... Am basically wanting a section plane through my scene and delete the geometry that is no longer visible.

Also, model is too complex to be grouping via section plane, exploding and then manually clearing the unwanted geometry

Anybody have any tips/help/tutorials/rubys that could help me achieve this?

if people were to record their modelling as a video then cheating would be a lot harder..

using fraps (http://www.fraps.com/) is extremely easy

    • RE: Curve that follows multiple points?

yeah have tried that, cant get the results I'm looking for though, as the curve is using all 3 axes it makes it pretty frustrating. May just have to settle for an arc which doesn't pass exactly through the points I need it to 😞

    • Curve that follows multiple points?

      Hi all,

Just wondering whether anyone could tell me/suggest a ruby which you specify multiple points that the curve/arc needs to go through?

Surely one must exist somewhere, just haven't been able to track it down

hmmmm turns out I found the problem... For some reason I had extracted the files into the tools directory instead of the plugins directory

Yep, I have that checked.. that little 'dash thing' that shows up (as shown earlier in the image with the arrow) is what shows up when I have 'Surface Operations' checked

TaffGoch... thanks a lot for that πŸ˜„ all is working well now. I couldn't get the texture pins working for me either, I completely overlooked the material editor

... Just a final question, how did u trace the lines?? The tools on surface plugin?

have just tried your idea TaffGoch, was a great idea but sketchup only places the texture on 1 segment of the curve 😐

    • RE: Traingle along a curve?

the only problem with drawing the triangle on a flat plane first and then manually curving it is that I would need a huge amount of sections to achieve what I want... I would like to export the final product to another program for rendering, so I'm going to need the curve pretty free flowing

    • RE: [Plugin][$] Tools On Surface - v2.6a - 01 Apr 24

I believe I have all the necessary files. I have the ZLoader__OnSurface.rb and then in the TOS_Dir_13 folder I have 73 *.png files, 9 *.rb files, 1 *.def file and 2 manuals.... I have activated the script from extensions. I get all the options from the Tools on Surface section in the Tools pulldown, its just a pain not having a toolbar

Pretty sure I have installed and followed all the instructions correctly?

    • RE: Traingle along a curve?

the tools on surface plugin is giving me some strange results... Using the line on surface tool and going from corner to midpoint I get an overlap and the forms created dont resemble much of a triangle.. am i going about this the wrong way?

watkins, I'm finding it pretty hard to follow your instructions?

    • Traingle along a curve?

      Hi all,

I would consider myself a quite experienced user of sketchup, however I have been unable to solve the problem of getting a triangle along a curve.

I have attached what I have attempted to do... But the result that I have got is not what I would like.

I would prefer the triangle to follow the curve so that the whole thing tapers towards its end point... any suggestions?

did you have changed anything to your graphics subsystem, i.e. new video driver etc. ?

try if effect vanishes if options "fast feedback" and/or "hardware acceleration" are disabled in the SU OepnGL settings.

      Norbert

i was about to reply "no" to the question about the new video driver.... but now that I think back, I did update it.

changed the openGL settings and problem is now fixed πŸ˜„ ....thanks for that

... one more question though, what affect is turning off "Use Harware Acceleration" going to cause me?

    • Can no longer select...anything?

      Hi all,

I would consider myself decent/above average working with sketchup and have used it for about 12 months, however when exporting a rather large model to *.3ds yesterday sketchup froze/displayed an error. I didn't pay much attention, and just went on to do other work.

.... However when I went to use sketchup again today, I have found I can no longer select anything once created. Absolutely everything 'apears' to be fine and working correctly, however once I create faces/lines I cannot select them in the scene at all??Hence modelling becomes extremely time consuming and difficult

Have tried reinstalling, is there anyway to just reset sketchup? or an way to solve this problem?
