Its been a while since I posted anything so I thought I'd let you have what is (in my opinion) my best work... so may i present 'The Pocket Æther Perambulator'
Finally complete after over 6 months of work. This is a combination of several large renders so download from here http://technohippy.deviantart.com/art/The-Pocket-Aether-Perambulator-200835080 is totally recommended to get all the detail. I would like to note that there are some artifacts which have been left as an indication that this is a mere 3d model. (a gentleman's bowtie is never perfect!!)
The dimensions for this are based on my trusty Nokia N95, It opens much like a netbook and boasts the following features.
*Fob ring - for attaching to a gentlemans pocket chain
*External Chronograph - with visible mechanism
*External Camera Obscura - for capturing magical images which might take ones fancy
*Internal Camera Obscura - for presenting images of your own visage whilst communing over the Ætheric web
*Miniaturised QWERTY typewriter - to aid in the preparation of Aether-grams
*Ætheric plasma picture frame - for viewing the Ætheric web
*Internal magnetic resonance speaker/microphone
*Dedicated buttons for accessing the Ætheric web
*Exquisite external engraving and name plate bearing the following information 'The Pocket Æther Perambulator - enabling communion across Ætheric space. As presented by Prof. A. J. G. Wellsby'

Modelling - Sketchup
rendering - Kerkythea

Bump map for engraving from openclipart http://www.openclipart.org/detail/48649
thanks for the comments and your tweaking of the image, I have achieved similar effects since producing this. this was my best effort so far
as you can see i got the organic shape nailed, the velvet still isn't satisfactory with some unsightly stretching, I think this is a kerkythea issue.
Thanks again
thanks for the suggestions and comments, i was looking for a crushed velvet kind of look with a softer mesh. tried all the bumps textures and fur plugins etc etc etc in the world and got nowhere. hey ho! moved on to other things now
Otherwise Known as "the aetheric volume disruptor"
modelled in sketchup
rendered in kerkythea
a little post pro in gimp
The main props for this work goes to the software, none of which cost me anything.
Sketchup - easiest 3d modeller ever
kerkythea - this is free and is unbelievably capable piece of software. the kt forums are a brilliant source of info and the resources provided by the users are excellent. search it out cos if you aren't using it now you will be!!
Gimp - who needs photoshop, i mean seriously... who need that over priced #$@% (feel the hate!)
I was intending to submit this to a 3d world magazine speed rendering competition. however i soon realised i would not get it done in time for the deadline so slowed up and took my time.
still haven't got the feel of the fabric box lining right... that will come with time... or not, working on something else now...

That extension brought some memories of a college I once visited. It had a reading room almost exactly like that attached to the main library. Very cozy, relaxing and inviting.
Good job.
Thanks, the location adds to the feel of the place... very peaceful
Yes its 2 storey, with a bedroom and on-suite on the first floor, kitchen on ground floor.
I'm afraid my next upload will be contributing to the guns thing, I did a steampunk raygun last year that I was going to post!
Many thanks for the comments guys
This is an existing building which I designed the extension for a couple of years ago, thought you might appreciate a photo of the complete extension for comparison. Unfortunately, planners demanded the dormer was removed and the whole extension downsized. If you look closely you'll see the stone does actually go to the ground as the original part of the building is actually about 200 years old.
I'm thinking of redoing this image for my portfolio as I have learnt quite a lot since, and it definitely needs more interest. so more foreground plants are a must!
the weathered wood came from cgtextures.com. the dog, kid and various plants came from 3d warehouse, trees are KT models.
Thought I'd start posting some of my renders here
This is my first Arch Viz from a year ago
Rendered in Kerkythea, post-pro in gimp

Bump that!
being able to import a 2d cad block or dwg as geometry would be invaluable. especially if a practice has a number of different title blocks all forming different purposes.
Being able to insert cad blocks could also allow the use of the editable fields within a block.
I'm resigned to redrawing my title block, but i think this feature would make layout even more attractive to all design practices, engineers and surveyors.
what confuses me is that LO is able to export to dxf/dwg but not import
Hi
I'm trying to construct a derelict castle, where some of the walls have collapsed and was wondering if there was a plugin or script which could help me to make the top edge of the wall a bit less triangulated so that it looks a little like this

Any thoughts? I have tried a number of plugins such as sculpt and greeble to no great effect.
