    • RE: [Plugin] VisMap - Layer/Scene Visibility Map

      Hi Martin,
      A tour de force. ๐Ÿ‘
I tried it on OSX/SU7 and it worked beautifully. Didn't work on SU6 though (got a blank window).
The problem I saw was that it doesn't stay in front if you go to another program and come back to SU.
It just hides itself in the back of SU, for SU window is usually bigger than vizmap window.
Other than that, it worked flawlessly as if it's designed for OSX!

EDIT: I even included a couple of layers/scenes with Japanese names and it seems to have no problem displaying them.
On OSX/SU7, vismap window appears to be blank right after it's opened, resizing it or clicking on the window doesn't make the situation any better. I just had to go to another program once and come back to see it is actually working properly.
I thought it was just taking a long time to display what it should be displaying, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

    • RE: Scale object question

Strictly speaking, scaling only "works" when the target object is symmetrical to all three axis. And that is a very rare situation.
Look at your screen capture of S forms, EscapeArtist. What you need to do is not scaling, but offsetting, in 3D.
Like Gaieus said, JointPushPull by fredo6 is designed exactly for the purpose. ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ Beautiful, isn't it?

I can see it seems to have endless numbers of useful functions, and it's pretty stable too.
But the video is so badly made, I don't have a clue what those useful functions are...
Looks like all dialog boxes are in Spanish? WTF?

It suddenly stopped working for me today, with SU6 and SU7.
Whatever I select to start, it says "it is necessary to select two faces and one path curve", but I'm almost sure I'm doing it right, it was working for me beautifully till yesterday.
      Did it have time-limit? ๐Ÿ˜’

Without any pics, it's so easy to misunderstand what the original questioner wanted though.
What I figured is in the pic below.

Or use deletecoplanaredges.rb by J. Dolabany.

    • RE: Soft and Smooth edges

So "soft" is a kind like visibility control independent from hide/unhide function?
Yeah looks like it... but I cannot think of any usage for "only softened" or "only smoothed" edges.
No wonder I didn't need to think them separately from each other in the last seven years!
Thanks for your help remus, I knew somebody here must know about it!

    • Soft and Smooth edges

I just found out soft edges are different from smooth edges.
I always thought, for the last seven years or so, they are always "soft and smooth" edges.
Below are the explanations I found so far at: Google Help โ€บ SketchUp Help โ€บ Learn More โ€บ Entity info,

      Soft
The Soft option is used to render the edge as a soft edge.
      Smooth
The Smooth option is used to render the faces connected to the edge with a varying tonal value.

      http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=114575

What I thought as "soft and smooth" edges are indeed "soft" and "smooth" at the same time.
I kind of understand "soft" but not "smooth" edges (at least I can see the difference), however "smooth" but not "soft"???
Can somebody point me to a really good explanation of these two concepts? ๐Ÿ˜•

    • RE: Google AdSense- does it generate money?

Pixero > Does anyone know if you actually get any money from these Google AdSense ads?

Yes, Pixero. As I suggested in that very thread, AdSense Ads can pay enough to support forums when used effectively - well, depending on the cost though of course.
Pushpullbar.com is a forum slightly larger than SCF but with considerably smaller bandwidth due to its attachment limitation (makes the world of differences), and it's entirely supported by AdSense now.
There, its members are not expected to click ads - but non-members are. I think it takes some time to figure out how AdSense really works (I cannot say I do, though) but it literally pays if you do.

    • RE: HOW TO? Compound curved surface in SU?

This is what I would do.
Make a flat plan of the wing and extrude upward.
Make its edge round by round corner (http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=20485&st=0&sk=t&sd=a) or followme.
Squash it with the taper tool from Fredoscale (http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17948&st=0&sk=t&sd=a)
Bend the wing as you need with the Radial Bend tool from Fresoscale.
      Cheers.

      Select only surfaces, no edges.
Then go to Entity Info Box and drop materials of your choice from Material Browser to Front face material box and Back face material box.

    • RE: What's your beginners tip?

Use Outliner to select groups and components.
If you have comprehensive naming convention for them, selecting deeply nested components within others is a piece of cake.
It will drastically reduce the need of zooming in + out and orbiting around the space because it will grant you access even to components outside of your screen... or no matter how small they appear on the screen.
So... Let's start grouping and naming them!

      Pixero (Jan Sandstrรถm) has a Ruby called "JS Shadow Threshold", the explanation goes;
"Set the threshold for a transparent object to cast shadows. Works on either entire model or a selection."
But this plugin never worked in my environment. It might work in some other, though.

    • RE: Moving component axes

Not sure if this is what you want to do...
Select the component, context-click and [Save as], save it to a folder as a new component file.
Open the saved file, [select all] - [Cut] - [Paste]
Now your cursor is at the corner of the new volume, click at the origin point and paste it there. Save the file and close it.
Go back to the file you were previously working on, context-click the component and [Reload], select the saved component file and you're done. Everything your component had as its definitions should be inherited to the reloaded component.
