RE: What a fun week...for money no less!
Tom,
Looking at it again, I actually feel the second image is fine....without the need for much [any?] filtering.[I find all those flat roofs interesting....obviously not a lot of snow in Kansas ]

RE: 1st Test post (SU-Vue)
Tom,
If you really run into trouble using Vue for interiors maybe use it more for external work and get up to speed with Kerkythea [wont cost your boss anything ] for inside jobs. But don't use MLT unless you have a a couple of spare days -
RE: 1st Test post (SU-Vue)
Hi Tom,
Pretty good start for Vue interiors!
If this is early days with the renders done in work real time we can expect to see a lot more good stuff!!
And there is a huge difference between commercial output with budgets and deadlines and the 'hobbyist' images that have been fussed over and cooked for days!!

RE: Music to make models go by
To be honest Guys,
I haven't heard a lot of the stuff mentioned.
But I do like quality music [with a capital Q].
When I'm busy doing a groovy SU model I often put on a disk of Lawrence Welk's Greatest Hits [volume5]...or even The Best of Mantovani.
If you want to listen to something a bit more modern and hip-hop [as it were], you cant go past Richard Clayderman!Stu

RE: Old forum is now closed
Craig,
I didn't really mean to include you in my little blast above....you seem to be the only living, breathing, feeling Google person prepared to inter-act with us WinkAnd sorry Mate, it was @Last that sent me dreaming into a 3D world I had never been to before.....I wont say Google SU has been a nightmare, but the excitement [and brand loyalty] has evaporated.
I am not intending to get involved in the G Group.....for me it's here or nowhere, but I do think it was discourteous of Google to pull the plug on the old forum without leaving even a brief note explaining what was happening.

RE: Old forum is now closed
Ok, We all know that all the google people are great guys, working their bums off to make SU even better, really care about and value the imput of us forum members and are going to make the SU GG forum just the sweetest thing.....Right?
But gee, it would be nice if their actions matched their words.
The history of the 'migration' has, sadly, been pretty pathetic.
First it was going to happen in a couple of days, then a few more days, then in a bit more time, then, well, soon. Finally a month and a half later they pull the plug. It would have been nice to put a message on the website explaining what's happening...but nothing. Just a metaphorical one fingered salute. -
RE: Antivirus recommendations?
Jackson,
I've been runnning Avast Home Edition [free] [and Spybot] for at least 6 months on a couple of computers at home without any problems. Previously I used Norton.
Avast seems to be the best recommended free AV

RE: Making an image of what's on the screen...
Andrew,
there is PDF Creator.
Im finding it good for capturing ACAD drawings for emailing to Clients.
And you can specify Jpegs, Pngs etc if you want to.And its cute being able to make PDFs without Acrobat.

RE: SU/Kerky/Marshall Hybrid
Thanks Dylan,
Probably the the reflections are the only bonus achieved by running the image through Kerkythea but I feel that, just maybe, it adds some richness that wouldn't be achieved with a straight WC render.ilay7k,
It was meant to look blurred ...I wasn't trying to produce a PR image. -
SU/Kerky/Marshall Hybrid
SU to Kerkythea, then a conventional Marshall Method 'watercolour' treatment and then an overlay of a Gaussian Blurred line only export from SU.....and then, and then you get the feeling your going in circles

RE: Formal Garden
Thanks All,
I would usually go for PR plant entourage these days but the Box Hedge had to be modeled and so, to keep it consistent, I stuck with SU components.
Solo, the Skp file was a modest 14.5 Mb but the XML file exported from SU was a substantial 320 Mb.
Gaieus, if I add 2D plant entourage [Tiffs] I would normally do it post SU and Kerkythea in PhotoShop [or in my case PhotoImpact].

Formal Garden
Its been a while since I posted anything,so here is something that I sort of like....not really my style of garden...and I wont go into all the sordid details of how it happened.
This is a version of an image I posted on the Kerkythea forum and I have to say that its streets away from anything approaching 'photorealistic'. Apart from my general ineptitude with Kerkythea I think this is partly due to the 3D SU component plants and the lack of reflection, lights, transparencies etc.

RE: Garden
Pete,
I dont think Coen would mind about the grass...he is Dutch after all...just as long as its nothing heavier.
In fact I wouldnt mind trying what you have got as well!
Very nice Image! The grass does indeed look fine... and is that drive modeled or a texture?...cant find any repetition in it at all! But I'm not truely convinced by the mix of clip maps and 3d components.
Actually, I feel its almost impossible to get away with 3D plant components in a PR render, via SketchUp, and that includes XFrog stuff. Im heading towards PR rendering of the hardscape, maybe with some clip maping, and then adding most of the plant entourage in PS...or my favourite PhotoImpact.Dylan, good plant clipmaps can be found at Ambient Light http://ambientlight.co.uk/
and Got3D http://www.got3d.com/ and ImageCels is good for masked Tiffs that slip easily into an image in PS etc.Stu

Kerkythea (and Piranesi)(and Mac) News (Aug 2007)
Kerkythea is to soon release a new version, which is great news!...and they are also bringing out a Mac version and need Mac people to test this .....
http://www.kerkythea.net/joomla/SU/Kerky/Piranesi users might find this thread interesting....
http://www.kerkythea.net/joomla/index.p ... &Itemid=76
[For some reason I cant get a direct link to this particular thread...so go to 'Wish List' and then the 'Export to Piranesi' thread]Thanks to Susan, the next best thing to an Epix. export from Kerkythea. I see it as a great way to add PhotoRealistic entourage to a K render.
