I agree with you about the foam though, it just looks kind of static. The rest of the scene is very cool.
Edit: You could try searching around to find a good foam texture. Here's one I found on a quick search in Google Images. Then, you could make it seamless and make a bump map in Gimp or Photoshop.

It's kind of dark though. Maybe you should put a moon somewhere to light up the scene a little bit. I know you want it to be dark but it's pretty hard to see much of anything. It may just be my monitor though.

Hmmm. I still can't find it. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be. I remember seeing an explanatory image of a couple of desks placed slightly randomly. You could try Sahi's Copy Brick plugin though. I haven't tried it either.

I remember seeing a plugin like this. It looked pretty useful for stuff like this. It would randomly move components along the green and red and blue axis and rotate according to parameters you set up. I looked in the plugin directory and couldn't seem to find it. Anybody have any idea of what I'm thinking of? I believe it might have had the word "component" in the name.

Maybe this? I'm not sure, I don't use CAD. It's pretty expensive for what it does. Maybe someone with more experience can help you out more than I can though. There is a ten day trial you could try.
AFAIK, this is just the result of offsetting complex shapes. If you offset far enough, it will start inverting. What happens if you select the outline and copy+scale inward?

One thing, the animation is kind of rigid. (e.g. sharp, quick 90 degree turns) I don't use this plugin so I don't know. It just made it seem a little robotic. Other than that, it looks awesome.
