[Plugin] Skalp for SketchUp v2.0 (live section plugin)
Skalp has been designed and built as an easy to use yet powerful Live Section Tool. It represents the key missing features needed to realize a long standing dream: Create your stunning plans and elevations inside SketchUp.
The Skalp development Team has its roots in architecture and 3D software, but that doesn't mean Skalp is for architects or Pro users only. SketchUp is being used in so many disciplines nowadays. Which is why we intended Skalp to be as 'generic' as possible. This means we do not want to change or disrupt your specific workflow.

We feel Skalp should just try to respect whatever and however you're doing in SketchUp and simply boost your ability to create superb drawings.

RE: Skalp - Dynamic Sections Plugin released
Skalp v1.0 beta 6 is released...
NEW 'Pattern by Texture' Skalp Style option to use the material attached to a group / component as it's section pattern.
NEW 'Define Pattern by Layer' dialog.
NEW 'Pattern by Layer' Skalp Style option to map section patterns as defined in the new 'Define Pattern by Layer' dialog.
NEWdefault layer setting: 'Skalp Pattern Layer'. It places the section results on layers named 'Skalp Pattern Layer - <pattern name>'. these Layers are auto-created on the fly when needed.
Intended for advanced use in combination with SketchUp 'Color by Layer' setting. You need to manually attach a pattern / texture to each of these created layers. Click on the color box to the right of the layer name in the SketchUp layer dialog. This process can't be automated because the SketchUp API does not have a function to attach textures to the layers.NEW 'Create Skalp Pattern Layers' added to the menu. May be used in conjunction with the new default layer setting: 'Skalp Pattern Layer'.
NEW **'Skalp Scales'**changing the scale of a scene will now correctly scale its section patterns. This is applied to the active scene only.
NEWYou can use different units for setting the size of the pattern in the dialog

RE: New section plugin?
Hi Edson,
We take note. We will make a movie on one of our own real life models. Maybe you could send us model of yours that shows us what kind of workflow / nested structures you want to be able to use?
We'll contact you on the toolbar issues, as these seem to be unique to your case. The Skalp Team

I bought Skalp with the same feeling vented by most of you guys: it seems to be a very promising plugin.
however, its release seems to have been premature at least in what regards documentation. so far there has not appeared one single tutorial dealing with complex sections like the ones one does in real life. to apply textures to a simple cube is easy enough but what about doing it to a complex section made up of nested groups and components.
not to mention the fact that many of features on the toolbars do not work yet on Mac OS.
I still think Skalp can be of great help but so far it has not lived up to one's expectations. sometimes it is better to wait a little longer and come up with more finished product than to rush to release it and have to face a lot of complaints.

This plugin does look "promising". However, I am not comfortable giving $69 to an anonymous developer for an early beta release where some advertised product features are missing, unstable or not implemented yet with no indication of stable release date.
Hello Tandem,
We will start offering free 14 day trial versions of Skalp asap, but it might take a few weeks.

Skalp for SketchUp is the most awesome section tool I've seen.
I'm not gonna spoil the surprise of what it does bit anyone who has AutoCad patterns that they want to use in SU and have them converted into seamless textures in SketchUp will be happy.
Textures was not what I was hoping for but lets wait until we see the plugin in action. A bit strange because on the website it states 'Export to DXF includes real CAD hatch patterns'. I was under the impression dxf only support lines and not textures.
Here's the Skalp workflow: You import whichever autocad .pat -> Use Skalp Pattern Designer to dynamically create tileable real sharp textures. It supports line widths, colors and transparency for use in SketchUp and Layout. However, on your question: Skalp definitely has an export to DXF from SketchUp that includes the original hatches, based of the original .pat definition.
